Germany leading 3-1 over the USA in a friendly in Hartford, Nagelsmann’s first game as Bundestrainer. Looks like a successful debut.
Interesting 4-2-2-2 formation. Good match, but I didn’t even recognize one of the starting midfielders, and I’ve already forgotten his name.
Germany looked more fluid than they have in a long time.
Must’ve been Pascal Groß, I hardly know him myself. Never made a dent in the Bundesliga, but was quite successful in the Premier League for Brighton & Hove Albion in the last years.
Messi dedicating his 8th ballon d’or to Maradona on Diego’s birthday… it’s a bit dusty here suddenly
I watched a game of Football today at Tottenham and an episode of Forensic Files broke out.
There was a brawl last night between Argentine and Brazilian fans because the stadium/management, for some reason, didn’t segregate the fans into the home/away sections you normally see. Ugly violence for a while.
Argentina won 1-0.
It’s very early to say, but based off of how poorly Brazil has performed in World Cup qualifying thus far this year, there’s a slim chance that Brazil may end up missing out on a World Cup for the first time in its entire history.
What I saw was more like Brazilian police beating Argentina fans.
I have an easy fix for all this recent VAR nonsense…just change the ****ing bar for calling fouls
Only call blatant intentional handballs, and don’t call fouls if there’s a whiff of simulation. Easy peasey.
Not the most footycentric of posts (but does involve Ronaldo) so mods feel free to relocate.
Those were some nervy last minutes of regular time, @EinsteinsHund ! On to some more minutes. #DFBPokal
Phew, it was close a few times in the last minutes of regular time.
ETA: a close game all in all, also in the first half of overtime. And if anyone wonders, we are talking about Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. VFL Wolfsburg in the German DFB Pokal (cup, round of 16).
1-0 Borussia! Just what I was hoping for, a strong counter attack after hard pressure from Wolfsburg throughout the last 15 minutes.
ETA: and it’s over! There’ll be a real chance for Borussia to win this thing this season, with only at most 3 other clubs from 1st Bundesliga left in the upcoming quarterfinals and Bayern and Leipzig already eliminated.
What a finish, congratulations!!
Thanks, I’m giddy now! We last won this cup, any cup, in 1995 and are hungry for it.
Although I have to admit that it was a very lucky win. Wolfsburg was the dominant team and had the better chances throughout almost the whole 120 minutes. But who cares after a win in a cup game?
You got FC Saarbrücken in the draw, good luck!
Well thanks, but although this looks like a lucky and the easiest draw, I would have prefered a home game against Kaiserslautern, Hertha or Fortuna Düsseldorf (which would have been a great traditional derby that didn’t happen very often in the last decades). FCS though are on a roll as a 3rd Bundesliga club after having eliminated two 1st Bundesliga top clubs with Bayern and Frankfurt, they have nothing to lose and will be supported by enthusiastic fans. A tricky and ungrateful task because everybody expects Gladbach to win.
Yeah, I intended a more literal reading of my post than you might have gleaned.
it will indeed be tough.
So Dortmund win the “group of death” in the CL, and Newcastle “We can’t walk because our pants are stuffed with money” are out, not even making the Euro League. That’s a surprising outcome given the shaky season Dortmund have played in the Bundesliga.
I love seeing Bundesliga teams move past the group stage. I might even root for RBL.
Might.
Newcastle have spent less then a LOT of teams
They also have a ton of injuries and a player out for betting of all the stupid shit
