is my man Cristian “Cuti” Romero in the field?
That Haaland guy is good.
Well, shit…
You forget, it’s Spurs lads.
Well, congrats Man City on the inevitable title now.
It was inevitable when Arsenal lost to Villa at home. Or, perhaps, it was inevitable before the season started…
The standard is now 90+ points. That is what the financial doping of Chelsea and Man City have caused, and what the PL has allowed by not enforcing their rules (well except for Everton and Forest).
And remember only four teams have ever score more than 90 points - City, ManU (back in 93/94 and 99/00), Liverpool, and Chelsea. Even the Invincibles only got 90.
Oh, and two of those Liverpool teams didn’t win the title…
Some evil people would say only that…
Meh, I think Arsenal were fabulous this year. Deserving champions in just about any era. But the combo of Pep and the money available over the last decade to build an insanely deep team has made the idea of anybody else winning the EPL title almost unthinkable.
6 out of the last 7 - same as PSG in League 1 and Bayern in the Bundesliga. “Farmers League” indeed. But I’m sure the powers that be will get right on ruling on those 115 charges… after they are done going over Everton and Forest with a fine-toothed comb.
Oh I agree, but Arsenal does have a rep as not being able to clinch it.
Well, Arsenal did their job today, but the inevitable still happened.
Congrats to Man City, I guess. I’m sure there are some long-term fans that are really enjoying this era mixed in with all of the recent arrivals.
Aaaand that amazing Leverkusen string comes to an end in the Europa League final, as Atalanta’s Ademolo Lookman scores a remarkable hat trick to lead a 3-0 win. Still, what a smashing success Alonso has had with this team.
I’m a bit sad, because I love to see teams breaking amazing records, but it wasn’t close and it was deserved, so congrats to Atalanta. And Leverkusen did break enough records this season already.
ETA: I hope that Wirtz, Tah and Andrich win two more titles: the DFB cup, and the Euro championship! (one can dream…)
Kudos to Leverkusen for that season and for ending the Bayern streak. But Atalanta pressed them to death today and Lookman hit three perfectly placed bullets.
In women’s football Barcelona has won the Champions League against their nemesis Olympique Lyon. About time it was too that they beat Lyon in a final!
The full game on YouTube. Both teams were great, the better team won.
Oh, and Leverkusen has won the German Cup. Against outsider Saarbrücken (outsider? Winner of the Bundesliga against 13th of the Second Division, yes, that makes you an outsider), but it was not an easy win in the end. But a win, and that is what counts in a final: 1-0.
I think you had a brainfart, Leverkusen didn’t beat Saarbrücken, but Kaiserslautern who had eliminated them in the semi finals. A strange game, with Leverkusen with a 1-0 lead having to play with one man down the whole second half and not as dominating as expected, but Lautern not having the strength to really challenge them. All in all, an incredible season for Leverkusen, with only one loss against Atalanta.
ETA: by the way @Pardel-Lux, what do you think of Hansi Flick as Barca coach?
Oh yeah, a brainfart indeed. My German geography is bad, bad, bad! But Saarbrücken is close to Kaiserslauten in my hazy mind.
Hansi Flick as Barça coach? I don’t know, I never had much respect for him anyway. But Barça is a mess in all respects, and if a masía wonder comes up again, well, who knows? Out of chaos comes a miracle. They have a great youth academy, that saves them again and again. Lamine Yamal, Cubarsí, Pedri, just of the top of my head, are very interesting and extremely young. I think the players are more important than the coach, usually. They are broke, no money to sign up great players, so they have to burn stages for the Nachwuchs (the young ones). Perhaps it works. I doubt it, and Hansi Flick will not be the one to remedy this. But it will not be his fault either.
Now why they pushed Xavi to resign in February, signed him up again four weeks ago, to sack him now for a second time… I don’t understand. He was not so bad. But he was no Guardiola either.
Wondering if Pep could do any better with Barca’s strapped situation.
Adding to the list of things I thought I’d never ever say:
“Man United won the FA cup in a huge upset over their noisy neighbors, and I’m very happy at the result.”
But here we are.
