I want to mention Julian, the nurse at QA Hospital , Portsmouth, who came in with the surgeon and told us my brother had died. (Back in July, no hugs etc needed).
Christ almighty, talk about sucky jobs.
He must have spent over an hour with us, including when he took us in to see the body, just kind of being there with us. Seems to me that that must be WAY harder than most other things. Damn. Whatever they pay you guys to do that kind of shit, it isn’t enough. Thanks.
Yup, yup, yup. The vast majority of nurses (especially in this country at the moment) are overworked, underpaid, and doing a fantastic job. I still remember the nurses who took care of me when I had knee surgery ten years ago. And when my grandfather was in hospital and died two and a half years ago, the nurses on his ward showed the most amazing compassion to my grandmother and all of my family. The neurologist would stroll in every day or so and give us a sentence or two if we were lucky; the nurses all knew my nanna by name, and made her cups of tea, and held her hand when she cried.
