It took about 20 minutes. That’s without using any info you might have let slip in your post history. Someone that actually paid attention to you would probably be able to do it faster as they’d know more and wouldn’t be going into it cold… even if not, they’d have more dedication.

If they post the information on another site (not on the SDMB) then not a damn thing should happen to them. Let the other site deal with any breach as per their own policy.

Depends. If it happens somewhere other than the SDMB, we generally tell the parties involved to keep it off the SDMB. People try to bring all kinds of fights from LJ, other message boards, real life, etc. onto the SDMB, and we tell them, every time, to go back to LJ or chat or wherever it started to work it out.
When someone posts the RL name/address of someone else on the SDMB, generally we edit out the post (or link) and warn the poster. There have been several instances of people posting names and addresses of people they’re pissed off at. The last one that I recall was some school official who told a girl that she had to wear a drapery thingy instead of a tuxedo for her senior picture in the yearbook. Someone posted his (the official’s) name and contact info. I can’t remember whether it was his address or phone number or what. Anyway, I removed it and warned the poster. THIS IS OUR STANDARD RESPONSE. We don’t ban or suspend people for doing that sort of thing, unless they make a habit of it.
I’m sure that’s not the answer you’re looking for, but it’s the way we’ve done things for years, and I don’t think that anyone’s been complaining about it until this last instance.

Interesting. I myself am not quite so extreme in my views. However, I do believe that convicted pedophiles prowling message boards ought to be exposed, at the very least. And I think that by engaging in such behavior they have forfeited any claim of privacy. At that point, I think they deserve the message board equivalent of having their foreheads tattooed with a list of their crimes. That would include alerting everyone within earshot on any message board where the creep was posting.
All we know is that the user posted the previously-unshared-with-the-open-community information for all to see and the victim objected. We don’t know how they got it or what specific issues led to its posting.
