The GD version was locked. Reeder, I have a note for you over here
Yes, this is the pit, but still, try to keep the screeching to a minimum. If you have an axe to grind about any of the issues specific to the “recent unpleasantness” keep it to yourself or please fuck off. This is a generic case; TubaDiva, StageManager, online registered sex offender databases, allegations of the sexual predation of children, the SDMB, LJ, et al. are OFF TOPIC in this thread until further notice.
A user posts the real name and home address of another user, without permission and against their wishes, in violation of privacy policy. What should happen to this user?
To answer relevant question raised by the previous incarnation:
The information is posted on a site serving the community of users.
Isn’t the primary rule around here don’t be a jerk?
Obviously anyone who would do such a thing would be clearly in violation of such a rule.
I recall a thread about a year ago when there was some talk of going to a pay to post system, it was a long thread around 680 posts or so. I brought up the possibility of needing a court ruling on what would constitute being a jerk, say for instance someone got banned for jerkish behaviour whilst another poster didn’t and I asked what if someone got it in their head to sue. Would it take a court ruling on what is or is not jerkish behaviour? I do recall being told it would never happen. I guess time will tell.
Isn’t it obvious that anyone who is concerned about privacy must be a child molester. You pathetic fucking idiot go the fuck away.
You’re avoiding the issue. And dragging the shit from the other thread into this one, which, according to the OP, specifically DOES NOT apply.
So, if someone posts YOUR personal info online, irrespective of whether you’re a pedophile (I know nothing about you…I presume you’re not), what do YOU think should happen as the violated person IN THIS INSTANCE?
“A user posts the real name and home address of another user, without permission and against their wishes, in violation of privacy policy. What should happen to this user?”
Reeder, I’ve long suspected and am now certain: you are the worst poster on this board. When you’re not embarrassing liberals and Democrats with your nonsensical arguments, you’re acting like an ass. You’re not even half the poster that duffer is, and I think duffer is a retard.
Reeder, I’m well aware I can’t stop you from posting, any more than I can stop you from hijacking thread after thread by acting like a dipshit. Still, though, on a board which has more than a few Bush apologists and random talking-point generators, it’s no small accomplishment to be the worst. Congratulations.
Feel free to not read this before you resume ruining what could have been an interesting thread.
Where did the user get the information? Surely you are not suggesting that a user can gain access to private information concerning another user through the SDMB, are you? If I find private information about you somewhere else and post it somewhere else, why would the SDMB be involved? How could I discover such information *on this board * unless you post it, thereby effectively negating your claim to privacy? I suppose you email me something private and request that I not share it, but Iam not sure that would be a violation of board policy were I to share it anyway.
