On South Park and corporate logos

South Park season 5, Episode “The Entity”.

Mr Garrison invents “It”. While I don’t want to go into the specifics of It , his brand logo is maddeningly familiar. The artwork for “It Motors” riffs off on a real company’s logo. A famous company. REALLY famous.

But WHICH company?! I can’t remember and it’s driving me craaazy.

The tapered stripes in the IT logo are reminiscent of the old AT&T “deathstar” logo, which would have been current back when that episode was made.

The episode followed developments in the Segway, and parodied major events in its development.

From Wikipedia:
“The invention, development, and financing of the Segway was the subject of a narrative nonfiction book, Code Name Ginger (in paperback as Reinventing the Wheel), by journalist Steve Kemper. The leak of information from that book led to rampant and hyperbolic speculation about the “IT” device prior to release.”

I’m not sure what logo you mean, but it’s basically a metaphor for the segway.

“It” logo

I guess it’s kinda like the AT&T logo, but more likely just something they dahed off in a hurry, as it were.

Sigh. I wonder if you’re right, sco3tt. It’s the artwork - those funny tapered lines - that are pinging my radar. Gah. This is worse than an earworm.

It’s bugging me too. I vaguely remember some other logo composed of letters having those same distinctive stripes. The New Balance logo is close, but the tapering is different.

Reminds me of the Trane logo.

Reminds me of some logo that would show up at the end of some TV shows (like whoever was handling the syndication or whatever) but I can’t remember which company it was (or is).
