ON-STAR just let me into my truck :) I like it!!

Completely mundane and pointless a topic…but I was thinking about getting rid of the ON STAR system in my truck because I thought I didn’t want to keep making the payments…but damn, I locked myself out of my truck an hour ago, and called the handy-dandy number in my wallet, gave them my pin and presto! Click-Unlock!

“… a thousand thanks miss on star personality! thank you, thank, thank you…”

Ok, Ok…other things I like about ON STAR…

personal calling…I can make a phone call with voice activated built in phone in the console.
Driving Directions: These are really cool, just phone the technician and they tell you when to turn right, left etc…etc…
But the really cool thing is the GM Goodwrench Remote Diagnostics…: If I hear a noise under the hood, or the engine light comes on…I call and they remotely diagnose the problem and call the shop where I bought the truck and schedule an appointment if I opt to do so

So I guess I’ll keep it!

hahaha!! my wifes car does not even have it  But hers does have an LCD display showing eactly where she is in any given city :frowning:

If your truck becomes sentinent (thanks to ON-STAR’s experiments) and goes on a murderous rampage, you will think of this thread and laugh bitterly.

Or perhaps not.

(and just as a safety measure: “Ah, they’re 1920s-style death trucks, then.”)

I’ve just upgraded my car today, too. Since my wife needed to use her dented, battered Ford today, I was stuck using my barely-functional Chevy. Since it is raining here today, I had no choice but to stop on the way to work and buy new wiper blades so I could see through the windshield.

I’ve been putting it off for months as a “frivelous expense” since the old ones rotted and fell off.
So, Yay to technology!

So how much do you pay per month for your electronic crutch?

Seriously though, have you used any of the other services provided by OnStar? Do you get a discount on insurance?

My older aunt got it in her Catera but wasn’t really aware of the fact. She was driving it home from the dealer, punching buttons to see what everything did and all of a sudden this voice started talking to her, calling her by name. Freaked her out to the point of darn near having a wreck. Imagine a blue haired lady with arms in the air and screaming if you will.

My guess is the more you have to use this service, the more dissatisfied you’ll become.

Venus - I pay under 20 bucks a month for an extended contract. Yes, I do get a small discount on my insurance…but I had to call them and notify them before we got the discount…it is minimal at best…Essentially, they took things off they initially covered and that lowered the rate…they took things off that onstar provided.

Before today it just sat in the back of my mind as something I had on my truck. Now, I think I’ll use more of the features…

i have one of those keys kept in a magnetic container undernead the chassis
