on West Virginia

I was there from 84 to 88, so we missed by a bit. I was in a band back then with a couple of music majors and we used to go to the toilet bowl to practice (don’t yell at me for calling it that - even the music majors used to call it the toilet bowl).

I miss Fries-n-Blue from Wings-n-Things - or Wings Ole - it changed name one way or the other while I was there.

I was born in West Virginia and graduated WVU in '83. My oldest sister was class of '79 and the middle one was class of '81 (she worked at Wings 'n Things around '80-'81). Now the rest of the family has moved to other states, but I remain. I have a love/hate relationship with the place; I love it for the natural beauty and as my home, but hate it for its hillbilly reputation and the willful backwardness of some its people. Yes, there are certainly some ignorant people back in the hills and hollers, but I usually only see them on TV, just like the rest of you.

Mmmmmmmmm, Fries-n-Blue. God, I would kill for one of their burritos right now…

SPLITTERS!!!

We lived in Morgantown WV from 1970-1974. That was way before the PRT! My husband taught at WVU and I took some classes in Business Administration there.

Our son was born there, at Monongalia General, because I knew too many of the doctors at WVUH and didn’t want the chance of any of them seeing my stuff.

Mountaineers were the STARS.

The only thing wrong with WV was the beer, at the time the alcohol contest of Bud was very low (I’ve forgotten the percentage) We had to drive to Point Marion, PA, in order to get decent quaff.

Or the State Line Inn, up Route 19 towards Mt. Morris.
