On Which System Do You Play "Skyrim"?

I started playing a few weeks ago, and just started perusing the main Skyrim thread. The comments in there make me think most people play on their PC – just curious if this is the case or not.

While I appreciate the benefits that playing on a PC would offer me (I have a pretty beefy graphics card), a comfy sofa, full surround sound, and 120-inch screen moves the Night Mother to the console.

What’s stopping you from hooking a computer up to that configuration?

I have enough experience with Bethesda’s games to know that PC is the only way I want to play. There are always countless bugs that need to be either circumvented via the console or modded out. There are innumerable opportunities for adding new content thanks to the amazing modding community, and with Skyrim I’m going to make an attempt at modding for myself so the PC version is essential.

The Elder Scrolls games have a lot of play hours as written; having the ability to add mods makes them nearly infinitely playable.

I really wish I could play on my computer with the Xbox controller. (If that’s possible, please let me know how). I just have never gotten the hang of gaming on the computer for FPSes. The bonuses that one gets for playing on the computer (especially the bug fixes as I’ve got 7 “uncompleted” tasks).

I play on a 360. Our computer is in our bedroom, and I only get to play when my wife goes to bed, so I use the 360. I’m not sure this computer could run it. It ran FONV; is that equivalent?

PC. Since I don’t own a console system (well, the kid has a PS3 but I’m not playing Skyrim in his room), playing the PC version was a given. The mods and stuff are just a bonus.

Got the game during Steam’s winter sale but haven’t got around to playing yet.

Xbox. I keep seeing “you have to play Bethesda games on the PC” but I haven’t had any real problems-- I’ve run into bugs but nothing that I couldn’t get around with a reload or simply living with it. I play vanilla just about everything. The only PC game I’ve got mods for is Civ IV.

Main reason is I just don’t want to pay for a new PC.

There’s no problems really, the difference is that eventually mods make the elder scroll games far far better than just the vanilla game.

Gave up on PC gaming long ago. Got sick of having my computer being not quite good enough for the next new game. I don’t want to put out the money for a game ready computer.

They’ve actually finally quit forcing a PC gamer to update their rig every year - mine’s several years old and runs Skyrim just fine. SWTOR made it cough a bit but all the other big games have worked perfectly. Been waiting for my computer to get obsolete but I guess the old generation of consoles is slowing down the growth of system requirements.

Apparently the two “others” can’t follow directions.

You can*.
*Assuming you have a corded 360 controller, or PC adapter. The settings are already in the vanilla game.

I play it on my PS3. I would have preferred it on PC but my current computer isn’t up to the recommended specs (it does meet minimum), and I’m not going to replace it any time soon.

I think it has a bit to do with the economy. $300 graphics cards probably haven’t been on a lot budgets the last couple years, So game makers have been forced to slow down. Used to be they would make a better game and the people would by the better card. Lately they can’t afford the card so the just skip the game entirely if they can’t play it.

Xbox. I’ve been toying with the idea of building a new PC lately, but it was a lot easier to just get a new console for about the same price as a graphics card.

I’ll likely get it for PC after I build a new system, just for the mods, but I’m satisfied for now.

You are my new hero. I’ve got a cord for my controller already and got the driver installed. Now I’m gonna go pick up Skyrim for PC and give that a try. Thanks!

Pc is the way to go. The consoles feel incredibly outdated. Laggy controls, low fram rate, low resoloution, low graphics details, incredibly long load times (and theres a lot fo loading in this game!).

Even if I didnt have a gaming rig, Id defintely be looking into one this late in the console cycle.

Hooking up a huge, high definition TV to a console is like having audiophile level speaker system and plugigng in a 90s walkman.

Of course the community content just brings it over the top, specially for a game like Skyrim.

Another issue I have with these types of games is that I want to be immersed in the game world. I feel utterly disconnected sitting froma couch 10 feet away from the TV using a gamepad.

That type fo game experiece, suits me fine when playing a racing game with friends online, or a sports game locally with others (which is why I have a home theater PC - best of both worlds), but for a gme like this, I need to be up close to a monitor, where the details of the world are apparent, where I feel the immediacy of the gameplay. I just feel a lot more connected on a PC for these types of games.

I might consider a new console with the next gen… but then again, al next gen is going to be is the consoles, once again, playing catch up with the PC. Modern gaming rigs are ALREADY “next gen”.

I’m on the 360 because I only have a household PC, so it’d seriously limit my playing time if I we’re in PC. The 360 is all mine. I wish I could play on PC, I love the mods.
