On Windows Same Number Of Files But Properties Shows A Difference

I was wondering, I copied some files from one internal hard drive from an external drive. The program I use Sync Back shows a successful run.

But when I right click on the properties for each folder I get an inconsistency.

For Example:

On the external drive it will say Number of files 25, size 150MB.

When I look at the internal drive it copied to, it will say Number of Files 26, size 150MB

OK so I look at the two folders size by side and ALL 25 are in both places.

Why is there a difference? I have the “view hidden files” unclicked so I can view them. They are storage only drives, both the internal and external. (My OS runs on an SSD drive, these two are HDD)

I am thinking there is some kind of hidden windows folder for some purpose but what?

I then copied the folders again by dragging using “copy” and again the same inconstancy, so it’s not the syncing program.

I get this all the time when copying folders en masse. I think folders construct and hide icon files (to store the icons you see for image files.) They don’t show up even if you don’t hide hidden files, but do show up in folders when viewed by certain program’s file lists.

maybe a “desktop.ini” file got created somewhere and is being counted. Those won’t show up by simply enabling “show hidden files and folders.”

Agreed. You might try unchecking “Hide protected operating system files” and see if something shows up.
