Maybe the judge figures that anyone who allows their parents to support them deserves exactly what they get?
Mom: I’m not buying you new underwear until you get a PROPER haircut.
Dad: Yeah! And if you can’t abide by OUR rules and be in by 9:00 pm every night, then you don’t need to live here.
Mom: Right! Now shut up and eat your squash!
Seriously, I think I’ll move to Italy. Working for a living is really cutting into my fun time.
Well, that is a little strange, although it doesn’t have much to do with my life. I might feel differently if I lived in Italy and had an unemployed kid, or if I was an unemployed kid.
If Dopers are going to get this worked up about it I expect to see an editorial column within the week saying it’s all Bill Clinton’s fault. In the alternative I expect a diatribe from ol’ December decrying yet another case of judicial legislation. Those of you who are constituents of Italian Legislators might want to do something about this. Otherwise all the perceiving with dismay and pointing in alarm is not constructive or even amusing.
I suppose what gets me most is that this kid is in his 30’s, has a law degree and a trust fund that equals out to around
$ 200,000 U.S. dollars. AND he has turned down several job offers.
My son moved out yesterday. He is 21, makes $ 6.50 an hour and has no trust fund. He has been paying rent here since he graduated and decided he wasn’t going to go on to college.
There is no way in hell I would support him just because he couldn’t find a job that is to his liking. If he likes his job great, if he doesn’t like it I’m sorry, find a new one. But he will not be supported by Mom and Dad his whole life.
IMHO letting your kids live off you after they are grown is not helping them, after all you aren’t going to be here forever.
