One Click Digital sucks (library)

My local library has yet again changed the program they use to let members download audio books.

It used to be so simple. Sign in,browse, select .mp3 or .WMA and a few seconds later, it was on your player.

Oh, and you could actually browse the selection. Since they’ve gone to OneClickDigital, it takes about 45 seconds for the first page to even load. Then I select a category, ‘History’. Another minute or so for that page to load. It appears there are 5 pages of History audio books. But since they went to OneClickDigital back in November, i’ve yet to see what lies on pages 2-5. Because the pages never load. Ever. It just says Waiting then times out. I’ve tried it in the morning, in the evening, at midnight, on different computers, in different towns.

They have hundreds of audio books that apparently I’ll never hear because it will never load.

My dad has a card with a library in another county that also uses OneClickDigital. I tried it from his computer, with his account at his library. Same Thing. Obviously the problem is with this awful service the libraries are using.

Oh, as for why I bothered to post that…I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue when/if their library converted to this hell service.

I’ve not used them - I don’t know what my local library uses, since I’m not a big fan of audio books. But, have you let your library know that you’re having problems? If this is a new service that they’re transitioning to, they need to know about problems people are experiencing. OR, it could be that this is a known issue and they have a way for you to make an adjustment and correct it.

Or you could be right and it’s a poorly designed service -but contact the library and see if they have options to help you.

Moving to CS.

My library has both Overdrive and OneClickDigital. I just went on to OneClickDigital and didn’t experience much lag.

OneClickDigital interfaces with the library’s catalog more than Overdrive does - that might cause some lag if it is pulling info from another site. And it might cause it to think it has more of a certain topic than it really does.

I second letting your library know. They pay for the service, and they’ll definitely want to know if their patrons are having trouble.
