My son recently talked me in to changing over to Firefox. It seems great however whenever I open a tab with any of the automatically updated sites I use (generally real time sports scores), the application goes from using next to nothing to using 100% of the CPU. Whatever I am doing suffers. If I close the tab it’s back to normal.
I can’t find any tips about what to do other than go back to IE. Anyone?
I would do a virus- and spyware scan, and reinstall the product. I myself uses Firefox, even though my profession is with all kinds of Microsoft products, and my take is that they are generally very manageable, fast and reliable, so I’m pleased with that software company. Except for the IE.
Also, note that some sites are more or less written for IE, and will behave unexpeced if using other browser. I fire up IE when accessing Microsoft Knowledge Base, for instance. There’s no problem using both browsers site by site.
One more thing, there’s an add-on to Firefox which let you open a “Internet Explorer tab”. You could install that add-on, and use that functionality when accessing a site written for IE.
If you can’t come up with a solution, you might look into Opera as a browser. You get still get the tabs albeit with a slightly different look and feel as compared to Firefox. Having run both on a margional machine (slow, not much RAM, very little free disk space) I know for a fact that Opera is far less of a resource hog than Firefox. Unfortunatly maybe 1.5% of sites it has trouble with (doesn’t display right) as opposed to maybe 1% for Firefox.
