One great thing about the Trump presidency

Which is shady and fascist, but also self-defeating, I think, if they actually have good things to promote. Which they probably don’t.

I guarantee they don’t.

Also, all that sensitive personal info Musk is digging up and surely exploiting is another excuse to avoid transparency.

Indeed.

I don’t even think we can count on DOGE purging a lot, which, per the OP, could at least result in some garbage being thrown out with the good. Most likely, it will be such a mess that we can’t even tell what was purged without a lot of detective work.

According to the White House Physician’s report, “President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.” And if anyone believes that they are either MAGAs or idiots. Sorry for the redundancy.

ISWYDT

Mmm hmm. Maybe if he’d added “for a 78-year-old” it would make some kind of sense.

To be perfectly fair and precise, while most MAGAs are either evil morons (20%) or just plain morons (75%), there is a small subset of MAGAs that are evil without being morons (5%). But yeah, mostly redundant.

Keep in mind the plan isn’t to reduce the government. The plan is to replace the government. This is Project 2025 in action.

Right now, we’re seeing stage one. Trump and Musk are firing federal government employees right and left.

Pretty soon, we’ll be seeing stage two. Which is when those jobs that were emptied by the stage one firings are refilled with Republican loyalists.

What we’ll end up with is a government bureaucracy that’s just as large as the one we had in 2024. But staffed with MAGA’s.

They’re throwing out the good to make room for the garbage.

I have to wonder how cognizant Trump, Musk, et al. are that they are implementing Project 2025. They sure don’t seem to be doing so competently.

DOGE could have done the same thing it’s done (whatever that is) by taking a little bit more time, smoothing out the edges, and engaging in better propaganda and self-promotion (as opposed to Trump just saying, “They’re doing great!”). Instead, Musk was trolling the nation as he did his dirty work, thumbing his nose and blowing raspberries like a bratty teen.

These idiots just can’t help themselves. It’s like Trump himself: his desire to be admired in combination with his desire to constantly foment conflict greatly reduces his ability to do evil and effect fascism.

I question whether Trump is capable of tying his own shoes competently. And Musk isn’t much better.

No, these two idiots are not in charge.

Trump’s been told that this is a secret program to keep him in office past 2028. Being an idiot, Trump then began talking about the secret.

Musk has been told that this is a plan to make him richer. He’s at least smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

But Trump and Musk’s real roles are to be the fall guys. They’re the ones being publicly shown as the leaders. And when the plan has moved far enough along, the real leaders can denounce them and throw them overboard.

When the Republican party turns on Musk and Trump, the public will be happy that the Republicans have come to their senses and redeemed themselves. All of the bad things that happened will be blamed on Trump and Musk. But the bad things will still be there after those two are gone.

I ain’t gonna say you’re wrong, but I don’t think the team is in place to pull this thing off. I think doing so would require taking total power like the nazis. That would be difficult even if the A team were on it, but I don’t think these clown rejects have a chance.

hidden as posted by mistake in wrong thread, please no more replies.

If the Thunderbolts were now good guys, they should have turned on Valentina because she was a bad guy and it was the moral thing to do.

If the Thunderbolts were still bad guys, they should have turned on Valentina because she was a proven enemy who had repeatedly tried to kill them but was momentarily vulnerable.

Only if the Thunderbolts were idiots, should they have agreed to let Valentina go. And Yelena, at least, was not portrayed as that kind of idiot.

But even if they were idiots, there’s no way this plan would have worked. If they let Valentina go, she would have done the same thing she did the last time they were working for her; set them up to be killed because they were a threat to her.

The only way the New Avengers would still be around in fourteen months is if there was a missing mid-credit scene where a piece of debris fell on Valentina five minutes after the press conference and killed her.

I think you just Captained when you should’ve Americad.

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a reference I don’t get!

I haven’t watched the Falcon and Winter Soldier miniseries or Brave New World. And I think this is a line from one of them.

I was trying to gently hint that you posted in the wrong thread.

You have a point.

That said, you sometimes need to avoid subtlety and hit me over the head with a club.

Totally true but there is one way American society might benefit form Trump/Musk sh_tshow, that gives me a little hope. Collectively they seem to be dead set on overturning the old adage that in America “the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” Seriously they seem to be doing their best to make ordinary working class Americans see billionaires as entitled scumbags who are responsible for their terrible personal economic outlook, rather than bootstrap-y geniuses who should be aspired to.

I’m not saying this will definitely happen but it’s a possibility that gives me hope. We could end up in 2028 in a situation where not only is the Republican party completely debunked among the vast majority of the American electorate, but the whole system of economic inequality where the ultra rich are venerated as getting where they are by hard work and smarts, could be too.

Of course even if that does happen it would take the Democrats to recognize it and actually adopt some radical progressive policies that might actually help non-billionaire Americans. It would also take the kind of economic collapse that will take more than one term of competent governance to recover from.

The people who’ve been believing the string of Republicans from Ronald Reagan to Donald Trump aren’t going to be swayed by facts. They’ll go on believing whatever Fox and Newsmax and QAnon tells them.

And the problem with the theory that destroying the country can be a good thing because it might give us a chance to rebuild it better is taking a look at the odds. Sure, we might get a Franklin Roosevelt to step in and rebuild the country. Or we might get a Julius Caesar or a Napoleon Bonaparte or a V.I. Lenin or an Adolf Hitler or a Mao Zedong.

I think this underestimates how siesmic a change a really serious economic downturn would be, most especially one that is so clearly caused by the Trump/Musk DOGE tarriff clusterf_ck. There is a tipping point where the old Fox/Newsmax tricks don’t work anymore (they didn’t in 2008 or 2020 and Trump/Musk seem intent on forcing us into a much worse economic crisis than either of those, and seem much less likely to navigate out of it)

But the world where Trump/Musk don’t get to destroy America ceased to exist on November 5th 2024, it now only exists in imaginary counterfactuals. We can only usefully talk about what can be salvaged from the ashes. We all know there are many many very very bad ways this can work out, but also no one actually knows how this is going to work out. Anyone who says they know how it will is mistaken. There is nothing wrong with focusing on the less terrible ways it might work out, while being realistic about how bad things are

Per the OP, if Harris couldn’t beat TFG after his attempted insurrection, I’m not sure I can see her making another bid at the presidency.
