No, those were the people who thought they could use MAGA, and got their party eaten from the inside. And as the US transitions to fascism they’ll have even less power; ask the oligarchs of Russia how much protection money buys them from Putin.
The “businessmen in suits” will do what they are told, or “fall out of windows”.
The magas tried to take over the country on January 6, 2021. They had a riot, broke into the capital, and then wandered around committing vandalism. They did not succeed in putting Donald Trump in office.
Meanwhile, the businessmen in suits get laws passed, get the tax code rewritten in their favor, and keep on increasing the amount of wealth they control.
You want to know who’s running the country? Look at who’s getting the benefits.
Trump and the magas bumbling around serves a purpose to the businessmen. They’re a useful distraction. And when they’re no longer useful?
But Trump and Musk’s real roles are to be the fall guys. They’re the ones being publicly shown as the leaders. And when the plan has moved far enough along, the real leaders can denounce them and throw them overboard.
When the Republican party turns on Musk and Trump, the public will be happy that the Republicans have come to their senses and redeemed themselves. All of the bad things that happened will be blamed on Trump and Musk. But the bad things will still be there after those two are gone.
They kill the businessmen. And even before then, the MAGA are the party. The businessmen are free to do as they want, as long as they want to do what MAGA permits them to do. They are like somebody running in front of a forest fire pretending to lead it.
I’m afraid @Der_Trihs is right. MAGA killed the Republican. What you see shambling around in the skin of the Republican party is a ghoulish costume designed to give MAGA some semblance of legitimacy. The old guard Republicans are pretty much gone and what we have are mostly cowards, sycophants, and a few true believers running the government right now. You’re right that they’re idiots, but the voters decided they wanted idiots.
Remember: The Nazis were idiots. They believed all sorts of idiocy; conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, mysticism. It’s just that idiots stop being harmless or funny when they get political power.
They were idiots in exactly the way you say, but they had a lot more competent people (Himmler, Heydrich, etc.) in their ranks than MAGA does, and they had a leader (Hitler) who was just 43 when he took power with a lot more (i.e., a monumental amount more) leadership ability than Trump. Now Hitler was an idiot because he didn’t know when to stop and ended up destroying his party, himself, and Germany. But Trump is just a plain ol’ idiot. He has some animal cunning and charisma that works on morons, but that’s it. And it’s his idiocy and that of his sycophants that is going to save us.
Well said, but I think it’s a power vacuum that will not be filled before the Trump regime implodes, which I don’t think will even be four years from now (I don’t think Trump is even going to live that long).
A lot of the world wants to be dependent on the US and will snap back onto that dependency once a competent government is in place. Heck, they have only hesitantly begun to break from it right now.
The Nazis had a 20 point program in place since the early 1920s (that Hitler didn’t take very seriously), large internal paramilitary forces in the form of the SA and SS, and a clear and open dedication to taking total power in the country. They also had an idiotic and willing accomplice in the form of Paul Hindenburg, who issued the Reichstag Fire Decree, which suspended the constitution, and helped keep the military in line in the crucial first year of Nazi rule (he also had the power to cashier Hitler at any time, which he did not do).
Even with all that in their favor, it took the Nazis two years to get to the Nuremburg Laws, five years to get to Kristallnacht and the Anschluss, and six years to get to WWII.
Compare Hitler’s goal of taking the Sudentenland from Czechoslovakia, which of course was successful, to Trump’s moronic mumblings about Greenland and Canada. Hitler succeeded in gaining the Sudetenland in 1938 without firing a shot by carefully and patiently mixing propaganda and agitation in the Sudetenland with threats and diplomacy on the international stage.
Trump, on the other hand, just shoots his fool mouth off, pissing off Canadians, Greenlanders, and the world in general while telegraphing potential moves. And so it is with everything he’s doing. He’d rather troll the whole country and whole world and lose than do anything with care and patience and win.
I just saw this little gem. If the senior republican in the article is representative of the “Old Guard” we are truly boned. The guy is on board with everything that Trump is doing, he just thinks he’s being rude about it.
