One Little Bit of Vocal Phrasing In A Song That Overshadows The Entire Song

Tracy, please go to the fount of knowledge first. The Master speaks.

The very last line of the last verse of “Somebody to Love” by Jefferson Airplane. Grace Slick (who apparently has tremendous lungs) sings:

“You better find somebody to LOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-uh-uh-uh-uh-OOOOOVVvvveeeee!!!”

She must have passed out after recording those vocal tracks.

Cecil truly does know everything!

I shall never doubt his wisdom again.

It sounds like ‘Bruce’ to me, but lots of folks believe otherwise. There is an ELO FAQ that discusses the matter, but I doubt that there’ll be any resolution to this soon. I was once attacked by obscenity-spewing assclowns on another forum because I thought the word was ‘Bruce’. Sheesh. At least I didn’t think they were singing ‘Lady Mondegreen.’

I want you to know that my ears are bleeding just from reading a mention of that song! :shudder:

Anyone got any kleenex?

Going back to Jurph’s comment, I tried to think of something for Tori Amos, but she says so many things so strangely that nothing really stood out. I thought about nominated “Give me peace, love and a hard cock” from Professional Widow, but I don’t think it’s the phrasing that makes so prominent!

Why don’t you all f-fade away
And don’t try to d-dig what we all s-s-say
I’m not trying to cause a b-big s-s-sensation
I’m just talkin’ ’bout my g-g-generation.

One of my favorite Spinal Tap moments is when David St. Hubbins stutters in “Gimme Some Money.”:

“You know what I want, you know what I n-n-need…”

HELLO CLEVELAND!!!

Patti Smith- Dancing Barefoot
“Here I go and I don’t know whuuuuyyyy…”
That amazed me the first time I listened to it. I listened to the song so many times since then that it’s kind of worn off on me though. And I only first heard it two months ago.

Echo and the Bunnymen- Vegetables
“C-c-c-cucumber! C-c-c-cabbage! C-c-c-califlour!”

Sex Pistols- Anarchy in the UK
On the recorded version, I like the way John Lydon’s voice squeaks a little when he sings “is this the IRA?”

Crim-m-m-m-son and clo-o-o-ver
O-o-o-ver and o-o-ver
Crim-m-m-m-son and clo-o-o-ver
O-o-o-ver and o-o-ver.

The one that really sticks out for me is the way she says “do you know CAROLINA” in “Me and A Gun” - mostly because it really stands out from the a cappella background.

“You got to keep 'em SE-PA-RA-TED.”

“Don’t give me that goody goody good buullll shi-it.”

“Some people call me Maurrrrrrrrrice” (which is actually true in my case)

“I want my…I want my…I want my MTV.”

“Subdivisions”

“De…Spurrradooooo”

“WHYdidYOUleaveTHEkeysONtheTABLE” “youWANTEDto”

I want to ride my bicycle!

Does no one here read Cecil’s columns?

In “Blinded by the Light,” what exactly is the lyric following the title phrase?

and I…will always love you…

fug ya Whitney Houston

Nitpick: It’s “Don’t give me that do goody good bullshit”.

Science!
