One of my dogs is missing

The microchip makers offer universal scanners to shelters for free. Now sometimes a universal scanner can miss a chip or you miss a chip if you don’t scan correctly or the chip migrates but most of the time, if there is a chip we find it. We have reunited numerous pets with owners at my animal hospital, so the pet never had to go to the shelter (saving the owner some money in fines they would pay to reclaim the dog). There is also the added benefit that microchips are additional proof that you own the dog, providing you register the chip.

Yeah, more than once I’ve taken in lost dogs - put up signs, looked through the paper, etc. I had one for a week once, her owners never even imagined she’d go across the big road so they never saw my signs. (This was pre-Craigslist, of course.) They put a lost dog ad in the paper, and I knew it was the right one because I yelled “Sheba!” and she went apeshit. So yes, they could have seen me with their dog - I was, you know, feeding it and keeping it out of the road.

Every time I see this thread is up I hope there’s good news. But there’s a lot of good advice, anyway. Fingers and toes remain crossed.

I hope you find your dog soon, snailboy. I lost one of my cats last week, and I’ve been a basketcase.

Yeah. They don’t seem to respond to reports made. Plus yellow labs aren’t rare. I’ve been visiting the local one about three times a week. I’ve seen several yellow labs there.

Well I left an ad in the local newspaper and on Craigslist. All they have to do is look in the newspaper and pick up the phone, which several people have done but unfortunately they weren’t my dog.

As far as I know, there’s only one animal shelter around here. According to the yellow pages, it’s the only one within 18 miles. I’m guessing dogs found in White Oak are brought here.
