One of the freed Tulia defendants back in jail, different town

After less than a week of freedom, Christopher Eugene Jackson ran afoul of the law in Pampa, Texas. Charges of assault on a public servant, evading arrest, and public intoxication have been filed.

He was seen Friday morning yelling at cars on the highway and when police arrived he fled. In the course of his arrest he struck officer Jarett Parsons.

Jackson had spent time in the Gray County jail before, and may have grown up in Pampa.

So given a chance at freedom, it would apper that this young man was unable to take advantage of his circumstances.

Sorry, I can’t link a cite…the paper this story appeared in has a subscription only website. You can see the headline Here but when you try to access the story it asks for subsciption info.

So?

Well, there was quite a bit of interest about the original case. You know, how it took an act of Congress (not really, just the Texas legislature) to get them out of jail.

Quite a bit of celebration, the taste of freedom, media spotlight, 4 years behind bars, all of that.

I just thought it was sad that this guy would not make it a week without using his newly won freedom to go back to his hometown, get drunk and punch a cop. That’s all.

Some people who are given a second chance might do better. Or maybe he liked jail, I don’t know. I was just giving an update on the Tulia case, I doubt this story will make Nightline.

And after reading your inspired reply it occurred to me that this is the MPSIMS, is it not?? So maybe it was just some Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share.

So.

I Shared it.

So?

Nah, j/k I’m just messin’

Duke for some people, being wrongfully imprisoned for years makes them bitter.

YMMV

If I was behind bars for four years because one dirty cop didn’t like the color of my skin, then I would be a bit angry as well.

No excuses, but he should get a Get Out of Jail Free card for this one.

No argument here. I guess he felt being rightfully imprisoned would be more to his liking.

Don’t take that remark seriously, I was being facetious. It actually never occurred to me that maybe he wanted to hit a cop to get even. I was more fixated on why he didn’t try a bit more of a low-key approach and avoid being sent back to jail.

Being wrongfully imprisoned for years would sure as hell make me bitter. It would also make me want to do everything I could to avoid going back.

I guess that’s where my mileage varies.
