This is not a pit rant, just one mans’ opinion.
Before seeing Rev. Bamani Obadele, a witness to the Southside Chicago beatings (and an R. Kelley critic) interviewed on TV last night, I never realized how uneasy I get upon hearing this very popular mantra from community leaders:
I’m paraphrasing, but I can honestly recall hearing words similar to those uttered a lot over the past few years.
Call me paranoid, I don’t know. I’m probably reading too much into quotes similar to the one above, but is it possible there’s a veiled message there?
Instead of bemoaning “black-on-black” crime, why not bemoan all crime? How about calling for an end to all violence instead of using the we’ve got to stop killing one another in our communites argument.
To me, the race of the victim shouldn’t mean a thing. Intra-racial crime is no more or no less devastating than inter-racial crimes.
