man, I started reading Fellowship of the Rings last night. I’m only up to like 66, but it’s fantastic!! I didn’t remember the Hobbit being this good (but then again, I had to read it in 7th grade, and usually resent books I’m forced to read).
Huzzah!

I can NEVER stand the beginning of those books. They’re so slow…
I agree with you on Fellowship of the Rings being better than The Hobbit. The classic are much more enjoyable read as an adult especially if they are “found” during a reading period.
I have never seen a movie that did justice to Tolkien
It gets better. I didn’t believe at the beginning of this year that I had never read the complete ring cycle, so I decided to start it. I’m almost finished with the last book now. A lot of the “wandering around in the outlands” prose does get wearying after a while, but if you pay attention it leads to certain plot points which are important in the later chapters. I know when I finish, I’m going to want to go back and read it again to pick up on the points that I missed the first time.

how very true. That’s exactly what I’m doing.

Man, I can’t speak to that cuz I haven’t read the rest of’um. But Fellowship pretty much opens with Bilbo getting turned into Gollum!! That’s fucked up… Combine that with

and I’m psuperpsyched.
**I have never seen a movie that did justice to Tolkien **
That’s one reason I started reading the book. I’ve been kindo of excited about the movie (more because of Peter JAckson than Tolkein), and had been thinking about cracking the books. But two days ago, my friend Joel saw I was gonna read Patriot Games (an old paperback version I found in a basement, warped and stained). So he basically said, “Urgh, do you want something better to read?” I said sure, and he pulled out Fellowship.
keee-ripes and keee-razy,

Maybe thats true, about having to find books as an adult, because I read Fellowship of the Rings for school last year and found it really dull…usually I tend not to like books I read for school. Maybe one really does have to appreciate books one one’s own terms.
