At the risk of exposing myself as a serious person, I’m going to put in a semi-serious answer. That thread was really annoying: he kept getting fairly good answers and kept saying, in effect, “Why?” Well, why anything?

If I post a one-sentence question that, although it does in fact consist of a single sentence, is a fairly long and complicated sentence, with lots of phrases and clauses and grammatical stuff like that (perhaps even a parenthetical expression or two), and if it completely and clearly spells out what it is that I am asking, so that the question is well-defined and coherent, should its monosentencity be held against it—that is, is the fact that the question is composed of just one sentence, and not two or more, really relevant to your complaint?
