One stupid criminal

So, a waitress in Ohio cards a customer, and the customer hands the waitress the waitress’ own (stolen) driver’s license.
Story here.

OK, one of these quirky “stupid criminal” stories. But what makes it Pit-worthy? This bit:

She was 23. She was freaking legal. All she had to do was show her own driver’s license, and she wouldn’t have gotten caught!!
I feel no need for a rant here. This woman’s existence is her own self-Pitting.

What odds the thief couldn’t show her own driver’s license because she didn’t have one?

Maybe, though that would ruin my fun.

BTW, why are the Google ads for this thread for enemas?

Well, they’ve moved on to drug & alcohol rehab.

And that’s one stupid criminal, yessirree…

The article doesn’t make clear if the 23-year old was the one who stole the property, or the one who tried to use it to get into the bar. The fact that the 4th paragraph refers to “a woman” and says that her companion provided her name, after the 3rd paragraph identifies the arrested woman by name, makes me suspicious. Why wouldn’t they refer to Ms. Bergan by name in the 4th paragraph if she was the one that actually tried to use the ID?

If Bergan was the one who presented the stolen ID, she is pretty stupid. Maybe she thought it wouldn’t matter since she was in fact over 21. Duh.

Apparently, you’ve developed quite the reputation.

I bet that quote explains why the woman used the stolen driver’s license. She was probably going to pay the bar tab with the stolen credit card, and needed the license and card to match. That just throws salt on the identity theft victim’s wounds too if they realize it.
