More than anything else electing a Democrat will personally affect my wallet and my gun cabinet. Issues like gay marriage and abortion may be important to many, but don’t really personally affect me.

Sucks if those invaders shoot you in the face with a gun they stole from someone like yourself. Or if you shoot your wife/husband/child thinking they are an intruder. But hey, it’s all worth it if you can play out your Wild West fantasies.

And for the record, for those who’re paying attention in the background and who actually care, it’s really disingenuous of you to misrepresent Barack Obama’s position on the Illinois bill regarding late term abortions. FACT: Illinois already HAS A LAW IN PLACE that requires doctors to take live-saving measures on babies born alive in a late-term abortion; they didn’t NEED another one. FACT: the proposed legislation was UNCONSTITUTIONAL. , who’s willing to sign legislation that is unconstitutional? That’s insane.

For the record, then why did Obama say he’d have voted for the bill that was ultimately passed, if no new law was needed or if it was unconstitutional? For the record, if the law was unconstitutional (I assume you’re referring to that later-constructed bullshit about the conflict between state and federal law), why did Obama not point out this fact until he was caught in a lie about the fact that he didn’t support the law because it would have undermined Roe v. Wade? For the record, if he wouldn’t support the law because of its undermining effect on Roe v Wade, why is there no counter to the fact that a version of the bill he torpedoed had the neutrality wording that was supposedly the only obstacle (at that point, before he later discovered other reasons that he just forgot to mention)?:

NRLC posted documents – which are so far undisputed – showing that Amendment 001 was adopted in committee and added the following text: “Nothing in this Section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being born alive as defined in this Section.” That wording matches exactly the comparable provision in the federal law.

Are you kidding me? Disingenuous of me? Obama can’t keep his story straight at all. Why would anyone want a legislator, let alone a President, who would construct such a chain of misstatement and lies?

The real answer to why Obama did not support the bill is obvious: Obama has never, ever abandoned the pro-choice zealot orthodoxy–it’s a part of the base he has never stood up to, the reason he has a 100% rating from PP. He is on the record saying the first thing he’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. The first thing! In case this is lost on anyone: ABORTIONS WILL GO UP, NOT DECREASE AS A RESULT. And I notice you didn’t address how your own cite contradicted itself–regarding the primary reason for abortion, ain’t no amount of prenatal care that’s going to reduce them. And anyone who believes Obama will support counseling to non-abortion alternatives for those inclined to get an abortion–in defiance of the base, who would go INSANE–you are deluding yourself. He has never, ever stood up to the base on this issue. Never. But he sure gives a mean speech on it.

This continues to be laughable. Obama, the pro-life champion. Right.

If I don’t pay, then merely visiting the US is likely to get me arrested. Also, being stateless is not really an option and so I have no choice but to pay. I am frankly surprised at some of the reaction here. All my UK and Aussie friends are shocked that I have to pay tax to the US, since they don’t have to pay to their own countries.

It also makes it hard for American companies to compete overseas, but that is another matter.

It is shocking when one learns about American tax policy. Only developed nation with such a policy. Really queer, actually, but it appears few people understand the situation - so bloody few Americans actually have any such experience.

I find it just downright strange the comments about keeping the citizenship, as if one has to pay for one’s birthright… downright fascistic thought that., and contrary to Anglo Saxon tradition as to citizenship rights. Telling the mate he can bloody well renounce his citizenship (for what? Not like becoming a citizen of another state is bloody easy) is just disturbing.
