Anyone see the Phi vs NY game yesterday?
Apparently not.
I just follow L.A., San Jose, and Seattle these days
Well, LA is really on a roll. And Seattle has lost two straight. I think Sounders may want to watch out - though both are likely going to the playoffs anyway. The Supporters Shield is still going to be difficult for LA to take from Seattle, unless the Sounders crash down to Earth.
With Zardes finally having learned to score, LA is going to be tough. That’s a solid roster, from top to bottom. And I’m a bit surprised about Donovan retiring. In the Portland game, he was a force, and looked like he has several good years left in him. I guess he’s doing that old thing of going out on top. The Sounders are fun to watch, and something of an MLS dream team… but they may ultimately wish they had a goalie as elite as the rest of the team.
I, alas, am a New England Revolution fan.
So RSL vs. D.C. United was supposed to be a great matchup of squads who were 2nd in their respective conferences. It’s 3-0 RSL in the 1st Half. D.C. United looks completely overmatched.
The West is going to be interesting. RSL, LA Galaxy, and Seattle Sounders all look dangerous. And LA is going to go all out to make Donovan go out a winner (I’m going to go miss Landon ).
Donovan’s never been all about his soccer career like someone like Michael Bradley, so his announced retirement isn’t the biggest shock. He definitely would have another 4 or 5 years of starter play in him, if he wanted to, but I guess he has things he’d rather do.
MLS and US Soccer will miss him a lot. He’s easily the best field player the US has ever produced. I hope he gets a great sendoff in MLS and Klinnsman should definitely get him one last game for the US too.
As a Chicago fan, the past couple years have been brutal. The Jermaine Jones rumors had me excited for a second, but it looks like that’s gone too. Bah.
And now Vancouver is up 2-0 on Sporting KC. Crazy post All-Star Game week.
Though I do love how Vancouver has made a Canadian football stadium look downright cozy (really the first game I’ve seen played in Vancouver), with the shades covering the upper deck, which also serve to amplify the noise a bit. I am excited for this set up for Atlanta in 2017!
I just got around to watching the MLS All-Star game. It was insane the number of world-class players Bayern was able to keep bringing off the bench. Great game. Of all the major sports, MLS has the only All-Star game worth watching. I love the concept.
Kind of ugly at the end, though. While I agree with Guardiola that some of those tackles, particularly Alonso’s, were a bit uncalled for, I thought refusing to shake Porter’s hand was a serious overreaction.
I am not a big fan of the concept myself. Our all stars are almost as good as your preseason team, great clubs of Europe ;). I’d love as Lalas wanted - MLS vs. Liga MX in an All Star Game. It’d be fantastic!
