Online Degrees

Has anybody here ever gotten or know anyone who’s gotten a degree through an online university? I’m specifically interested in Kaplan University (which I know is owned by the Washington Post) or the University of Phoenix.

The UoP is an accredited school and they seem to have a good program set up but I’m not sure I want to spend thousands of dollars on something that I won’t be able to use. I’m a 30 yr old mother of two and I don’t have free time to go sit in a classroom.

Also - anyone here in a hiring capacity? What would you think of a job candidate who chose this route for education?

I’ve read that it’s better to go through an online program from a traditional university. A lot of universites have degrees you can attain through distance learning, and you might be cheaper if it’s public and you’re a resident of that state. I don’t have experience personally with online degrees, though.

My mum’s cousin got one. He was qualified for his job but there was a policy change and all of a sudden he needed a degree. One from an online university was enough to rubberstamp his job security.
