Online Education Advice

Pretty much. Still more effort than the OP has put into it, though.

As a wise shrink once told me, “You cannot care more than they do about their problem. You’ll make yourself crazy, and it won’t help them.”

To defend my advice, remember that the OP asked for recommendations for an online course or training program that would result in a certificate qualifying him for a career (not in emergency medicine/fire/police, although I don’t know of any online programs that would qualify one for medicine, fire or police work) earning more than $35,000 per year and will get him out of Tennessee. Don’t you think that might be a tall order?

I’m sorry, Dewey Finn, I used your post to take off with, not to assail you.

I was so enamoured of my keen insights, that I didn’t take time to properly assign my thoughts.

I apologize to you.

I’m going to have to have some cites for this.

I appreciate that. But getting back to the OP; is his request realistic? Are there online certificate programs that will qualify one for jobs?

Limited, if you eliminate the medical stuff. Human Resources, maybe, but the folks with certificates don’t make much. Paralegal?

Medical transcription seems to fit the bill. You might start below $35,000 if you are in a small market, but that’s really going to be dependent on where you move. There are online courses for it and it’s not a degree. All hospitals need them, so you can move pretty much anywhere.

Medical coding can be a good job as well. Something like this: Medical Billing and Coding Online Certificate | Drexel Online

This website might be helpful.

Is transcription still a valid career path? I’d imagine that it can be automated or outsourced, perhaps overseas. As for medical coding, it might be useful to be trained in ICD10.

Yes and no… Congress just passed a bill that delayed ICD10 implementation until 10/14. Right now all certifying exams are still in ICD9. It’s unclear if it’ll get delayed again. Definitely still need 9, exposure to 10 could be useful.
