Online obituary recommendations

Hi, I’ve recently lost a loved one and was thinking of placing an online obituary in addition to the local newspaper. I’ve had a look around and there seem to be a few sites so I was wondering if anyone can either offer up some personal experience or point me towards those sites that are considered to be the best.

I don’t mind having to pay if the best sites are not free.

Thanks in advance.

I think the biggest company in the business is Legacy.com. No idea if it’s the “best” or even how you’d measure that.

Also I reported the thread so it can be moved to IMHO.

Since the OP is looking for advice, let’s move this to IMHO.

The small, home town newspaper where I grew up as a kid has an online version of the paper that also has the obituaries. I would think that is fairly common in some smaller towns/cities.

As far as larger metropolitan areas, I am not sure if they put obituaries online - or if there is an extra charge - but I would think putting an obituary in any of those papers and paying an extra fee (if any) would probably suffice. That would at least make it searchable on Google.

Thanks for the comments. I’ll check with the funeral home about whether the obit will include an online page as well.
