Only Murders in the Building

I’m enjoying it so far. This season seems more focused on the mystery than the lives of the leads. Oliver has an epiphany about his selfish nature, Charles ponders his mortality, and Mabel…nothing. That’s it. Which is for the better, I think. The Caccamelio brothers are hilarious.

Yeah, the whole “autopsy” thing of them playing around with a corpse they found, instead of actually calling the police, was too OTT for me.

Renee Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, and Logan Lerman were a lot of fun.

If you are looking for realism this might not be the show for you.

I did love Camila White’s line upon first entering Oliver’s apartment: “Isn’t this an absolutely appalling amount of everything!”

Maybe I have no taste but I actually liked his maximalist nonsense more than her monotone nonsense

Best line from episode 5: “That was the robot wasn’t it.”

The auto-tuned “Oh no!!!” before that was pretty hilarious too.

Episode 7 was fun. Plot holes galore of course, but who watches it for the plot anyway? The celebrity guessing game was hilarious, both sides ( “Who calls you ‘bunny face’ and why?” “Xi Jinping and that’s between us!”) . The farming couple mistaking Oliver for a dementia patient who had wandered away from his institution was priceless.

We’re still not clear whose finger it was. I am guessing it belonged to a chef from the hibachi restaurant who accidentally chopped off his own digit and mixed it in with the shrimp served. I speculate this because there really wasn’t a good reason to otherwise have a hibachi restaurant scene in an earlier episode.

Also amusing was the opening montage, in which there was an Algie in every window with the main three, as well as leaning against the tree watching Howard walk the robot.

How is the current season? We thought the last year was a significant step down. We’re waiting for more to air so we can just binge it.

I’ve felt like the mysteries were taking back seat to the character interactions, and some general flailing to fill time, the last few seasons. This one feels more focused and the mystery more properly fleshed out, again.

The “billionaires” group that they encounter are cartoonish - especially Renée Zellweger - and that’s a bit distracting. But other than that, I’d say that it’s a good season.

I’d agree the writing is tighter than last season. But I watch it for the characters and the jokes more than the plot, so my standards may be lower than yours.

Just saw a comment on another page that pointed out that the blackjack table scenes from the latest episode featured four separate Academy Award winning actresses (with a total of eight Oscars collectively won).

There are a lot of A-listers who have appeared over the years. Steve Martin and Martin Short have been around a long time and likely know everybody. No problem getting famous names on their show!

One of those Oscar winners won after she had been on the show. She wasn’t an A-lister then.

I have no idea which actress you’re referring to but plenty of people are A-listers without being Oscar winners.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Detective Williams) won the Oscar for supporting actress after she had already been on the show.

Okay, thanks. Honestly I’m not sure she’s A-list even after winning the Oscar.

Agreed.

A-List = Money making machine
Academy Winner = Technically accomplished or…just made so much money

Not the best episode to end it on, but I guess the crime itself was well enough staged.

Apparently the next season is already greenlit and they’re off to London. I am anticipating casting along the lines of Colin Firth, Idris Elba, or Helen Mirren.
