My parents went on a Mediterranean cruise last week, the first time they have taken a real vacation in many, many years. So what does my mother do? They step off the boat in lovely Aruba, and five minutes later my mother trips over a rock and manages to break her leg. One of these days, I am going to buy my mother full body padding and a helmet. I love her dearly, but this woman is a major klutz. She is always falling down stairs, tripping over carpet lint, slipping on wet floors, etc. My mom is okay. The fracture was a clean break and wasn’t displaced at all, so she will probably only have to wear a cast for four to six weeks. Still, only my mother would manage to break her leg tripping over what was apparently no bigger than a pebble.
So did they have to come back to the states, or will they get to continue the cruise, or is she in too much pain? I hope things weren’t ruined completely for them.

Nope, she’s not the only one, 5 years ago my oldest son(he was 8 at the time), broke his ankle on the playground before school, by tripping over a bookbag, on the last day of school no less. Poor kid was in a cast most of the summer.
Glad to hear your mom is OK, that is a bummer.
My astrological sign is klutz. In high school, I tripped over a tree root (only 1 inch showing above ground) and broke my nose.
[Managed to drop a full bolt of cloth on my foot today. X-rays showed no broken bones, but one helluva bruise.]
Cautious hugs and sympathy to your mother.
My mom broke her ankle several years ago. She lost her balance during a low-impact aerobics class, and tripped over a piece of workout equipment.
Oh yeah, then there’s the time she broke her arm. She was at work, at a safe house for battered women. The phone started ringing, but she was in another room. There was no one else there, so she started running to get to the phone. She tripped over a vacuum cleaner, slammed in to the wall, and broke her arm in 2 or 3 places, IIRC.
There’s another side of the broken arm story that I must share, because my mother would never, ever forgive me if I didn’t. When this happened, my brother called me at work to tell me that my mom was in the hospital with a broken arm, and he gave me all the pertinent info. I called her room, and she told me about the phone ringing, etc. My brain froze. I asked her what time this accident had occurred, and she said it had happened at about 1:30 in the afternoon or so. Then it hit me–at that time, I had been trying to call her. My mom was racing to take a phone call from me, and all I’d wanted to know was what time the Detroit Tigers game started, because it was Opening Day, and I wanted to tape it.
Of course, I begged my mother’s forgiveness. But since my mother and I are quite a lot alike, she hasn’t given it yet. I don’t expect her to anytime soon, though. I mean, it’s only been 12 years.
We (mom and I) were at UVA, going in one deliberate direction. Mother goes partway into one building and comes out (not having gone all the way in) and goes the exact opposite direction from what we wanted. I swear, the woman would lose her way falling from a building.
Actually, it was the last day before the boat turned around and headed back to port, so only the return trip was ruined. My mom was just so upset because they visited several islands on this trip, but Aruba was the one she wanted to visit the most. She still ended up getting to see the island, but from a wheelchair. But, to make up for it, she spent way too much money and ate way too much food, so it wasn’t a total loss
A friend of mine went to Viet Nam with her mother to visit relative (they came to the states after the fall of Saigon). The first day they were there, the mom fell and broke her hip. So your mom isn’t the only one…
