Oops, He Did It Again—Romney Disagrees With Romney On What It Means To Pay More Taxes Than Are Due

Mitt Romney to ABC News’ David Muir, July 29, 2012: “I don’t pay more [taxes] than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don’t think I’d be qualified to become president.”

Mitt Romney’s campaign, September 21, 2012 (paraphrased): “You should like Mitt Romney; he’s a generous guy! He paid more taxes than were legally due last year!”

I guess that means he’s admitting he’s unqualified to become president?

I just want to know how fast he’s going to file an amended tax return after the election.

Faster than you can say, “I concede and congratulate my opponent, Barack Obama.”

From your mouth to God’s ears.

It’s just such a bad campaign. Did anyone think this wouldn’t be caught in… what? 5 minutes? I mean surely his return is complicated enough that they could have hidden the untaken deduction.

Gee, now both major party candidates are on record as saying they shouldn’t be elected this time. Good news for the Libertarians and the Greens!!

and there it is

If the IRS can figure it out, so can a bunch of interested parties looking at the returns.

I take it as a given that he will amend his return, win or lose, after the election, but I wonder if we can ever know that he has done that (without him volunteering the information). I guess not. Too bad–hewill always have his defenders saying, “Yeah, he got his ass kicked in by Obama, but he was a great guy, paid fewer taxes than he owed.”

(bolding added)

So, what’s the political equivalent of a Freudian slip, prr?

Really, the Romney campaign seems to be spinning in freefall, just because his brain is such a tabula rasa that there’s no telling what’s going to come out of his mouth.
