OOTP baseball league anyone?

I’m going to need a few days to set everything up. I’ll post later in the week when everything is ready.

While we’re waiting, people can start letting me know what city name/team name they want. City size won’t actually matter as I’m setting all market sizes to Average to begin.

As for my team: we’re the Brooklyn Wolves!

Zev Steinhardt

I’d like to be the Seattle Monarchs.

I think I’d like to be the El Cerrito Blue Sox. But I may come up with something better.

Do we have a final count on participants?
And what do you mean when you say you’re “setting all market sizes to Average to start”? Are some of us going to have to play the role of backwater teams with no budget?

Tremble in fear at the mighty Saskatoon Cossacks!

No. Precisely the opposite. I’m setting all market sizes to Average, so it doesn’t make a difference whether you’re playing with New York or Hicktown, Alabama. The market size (at least in the beginning) will be the same.

Zev Steinhardt

Again with the ominous foreshadowing. This is what I’m asking about; the references to future changes in market size.

I’m still in. Call me the Virginia Generals.

I’d go with the Washington Generals…but that’s just cursed.

Sorry about that. The game sometimes automatically changes market sizes. I can’t say that I know for certain what changes the market size, but I believe it has to with the success of your team.

Zev Steinhardt

Well, so far we seem to have six definites:

Myself - Brooklyn Wolves
Squooshed - Seattle Monarchs
White Lightning - El Cerrito Blue Sox
Treviathan - Saskatoon Cossacks
Jonathan Chance - Virginia Generals
RickJay - No name chosen yet.

Since I set up a league with 2 “leagues” and four teams in each league, I’ll put three of us in each league (randomly) and the fourth will be computer run until someone comes along to claim it.

The two leagues are the Adams League and the Zotti League. The Championship Trophy is called the Cecil Cup. I’m open for suggestions on the names of the Outstanding Hitter, Pitcher and Rookie awards. (The names I chose for the leagues and the trophy aren’t set in stone either in case anyone wants to suggest something else.)

I have a domain where the league files will be. The domain is ootp.izev.com. I hope to have something up there in the next day or two.

If anyone has questions, feel free to email me or ask here.

Zev Steinhardt

I promise I’ll have a barrage of questions for you as soon as I take a more in-depth look at the whole thing. And I’m definitely going to change my name. Is that cool? I love the league names.

I propose that the Outstanding Hitter, Pitcher, and Rookie awards not be named after SDMB posters.

I like the ‘market size is determined by success’ thing. It’s pretty well established that attendance and advertising revenue is NOT mostly effected by market population but by team success. The better your team the more people are interested in it.

Creates on HELL of a vicious cycle on the downside, though.

Rather than get bogged down with a 50 round draft to begin with before even playing one game, I figured it would be best to let the computer conduct the initial draft. This way we can get to playing much quicker. Assuming that’s OK with everyone, of course.

At the league site, I put up the league structure as it stands, and a list of all the players (who have not yet been distributed to teams).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

As for anyone else viewing this thread… we still have two spots open…

Zev Steinhardt

OK, so I have a team. When will the draft take place and is there any means to set some computer standards for it?

A) I don’t see any players.

B) Can I invite a npn- SDMB pal?

If an opening is still available, I think I’ll go ahead and sign up to do it.

It is my understanding that I need to

  1. Purchase and download the software
  2. Let you know of my team name
  3. Start playing

Correct? Just let me know if I am missing a step somewhere.

That’s pretty much it.

**

They’re under Free Agents since they haven’t been assigned to teams yet.

I don’t see why not. What would saying no accomplish. Even if he said no, he could always sign up, make one post, and join.

Zev Steinhardt

Bump!

We still need two more people…

My pal is out.

Anyone else?
