Not relevant, but slightly related, I’ve always found it comical that gay stars are hooked up with ‘straight’ partners (through contracts!) and are supposed to appear in public looking Deeply In Love, holding hands, indulging in PDAs. Arrangements, exactly like their forebears, since movies STARTED. I think of it as ‘Rock Hudson-ing’.

It is still amazingly common. Oprah still has Stedman. Alexander Skarsgard and Ellen Page “dated” for awhile. Since Ellen was fairly well known as a lesbian, this just enhanced the rumors about Skarsgard. Then she came officially out and made a big deal about being a lesbian all along.
This is one of the problems with these deals. One of the “pair” comes out and that just reinforces the rumors about the other person. Cf. Sarah Gilbert and you-know-who.
What would be shocking is if someone widely assumed as gay wasn’t. Maybe Richard Simmons has been secretly and happily married to a woman for decades and they’ve raised a bunch of kids. That kind of thing.
Speaking of DiCaprio: the big secret is that he’s a crappy actor.
Actually there are widespread rumors that Simmons is straight and just adopted his hyper-gay persona because it sold products. Plus…you know…he’s crazy.
Another example is Alicia Keys. For a long time, she simply refused to say anything about her romantic life. She just said it was private and nobody else’s business. She was right but this is exactly the kind of thing that gay people often say if they wish to conceal that they’re gay. So the rumor got started that Keys was a lesbian.
But, no, it turns out that what Keys was concealing was that she had a boyfriend - who was married to another woman. Her boyfriend eventually split from his wife and Keys went public with the relationship.
That’s your opinion. You’re naive, like my mother. You obviously are unaware of gossip sites, ‘blind item’ sites, and are the type who would have, in the past, been shocked, SHOCKED, to learn Rock Hudson was gay and died from AIDS.
Actually, from what I have read greater acceptance of gays has led to even more adverse effects on career prospects. Apparently, there are several types of roles which are out if you are openly gay. Like action hero, leading man.

Action hero is a problem. Leading man somewhat less so, gay male actors have been able to find parts as romantic leads. But they still get questioned on their ability to pull off the role of straight man as the action hero, and sometimes other roles. The argument is that it’s a matter of public perception, that a gay man will be more critically examined in the role of a straight man, not to mention the assumption that a leading man character is straight whether or not it’s a necessary component of the role.
The Doctor Who special “The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot” played with this. Davison, Baker, and McCoy are mortified to discover the John Barrowman is married, has two children, and drives a minivan.
I was a little shocked to find out that Andrew Ridgeley is het and in a relationship with Keren Woodward of Bananarama.
That Dan Schneider is a paedophile, he’s responsible for a lot of popular kids shows.
Yes, there are rumors on the Internet about Dan “Get in the Van” Schneider. They seem to be based mostly on his Nickelodeon shows having lots of scenes involving feet, suggesting that he’s using underage actresses to indulge a foot fetish. And some pics of him being touchy-feely with actresses, lots of hugging and having them sit on his lap.
Tony Randal was often thought to be gay but he had two wives and several children, a couple of them after he was 75.
About the only people who think that are former adolescents who are still butthurt that girls (or boys) they liked had a crush on him back in the Titanic days. Or right-wingers who wish he’s shut up about that environmental and altruism crap already.
