Are there other Hollywood bigwigs about to fall?

Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein. These guys have allegedly been harassing (and worse) women for decades. Some say it was an open secret in Hollywood, while others are shocked, SHOCKED to learn about it.

Which leaves me wonder, who’s next? Are there significant rumors about other bigwigs who might be ready for a fall? It’s hard to imagine that there was just a few bad apples, given the situation in Hollywood: the confluence of many young, vulnerable women interacting with older, powerful men.

Is Ben Affleck considered a Hollywood bigwig? I hear his name in the news lately and not in a good way.

Ben who?

Yeah, I’d say bigwig applies to him!

You know, the car insurance dude.

Mayhem? Or the Gecko?

Casey Affleck and Louis CK have both had multiple allegations.

I think there will be more.

I’m pretty sure their have been a lot of meetings behind closed doors to keep mouths shut. Weinstien might have just been thrown under the bus to protect the others.

Hollywood is a sewer,

I’ve heard stories about Bryan Singer (director of the X-Men movies) and Dan Schneider (one of the students on Head of the Class but more recently producer of a bunch of teen-oriented sitcoms that appear on places like Disney Channel or Nickelodeon).

I would bet there will be some additional house-cleaning, based on what happened with Weinstein. His studio is up for sale, he’s out of the Academy, bad news all the way. Investors in studios or even individual films are not going to be keen to risk their money on bad boys for at least a little while.

We know there are a few others out there, because we’ve got a few male stars coming forward and saying it happened to them too. It wasn’t Weinstein, so who was it? I would also expect that if there were other predators of the scale of Weinstein, we’d see women starting to name those individuals too. Overall, I’d look for a few more heads to tumble in the weeks to come.

I think it’s almost certain more people are going to be exposed for sexual exploitation. Somebody like Harvey Weinstein wouldn’t have been able to do this all these years if he was the only one doing it.

ISTR seeing a few stories in recent months alleging that Louis CK masturbates in front of women (without their consent). So he’s probably a good bet for next big name to go down.

I hadn’t heard anything about Casey Affleck. I do agree that Ben Affleck has been showing up in the news lately as kind of a douchebag. I enjoy both of them as actors, and, based on no real evidence, I’d always had them both in the “probably pretty nice guys” category. But then, I didn’t really see the Cosby thing coming, so what the hell do I know?

Here is an interview with Corey Feldman from The Hollywood Reporter about a year ago, in which he talks about child predators who exploited young boys and girls. Although he doesn’t name names, it gives you an idea of just how bad things can get.

I think there’s going to be more, and it won’t take long to find out. Weinstein’s habits were well known for years, he had enough influence to kill the stories. There will be men and women who come forward now because they’ll be believed and some may foolishly believe that coming forward will now help their careers. At the same time I’m sure Hollywood is closing ranks to protect it’s own and the smear campaigns against the accusers will begin soon. And this won’t stop in Hollywood either.

I’ve no doubt this one will run and run but I can’t be the only one listening to the great and powerful of Hollywood and their variations of “this is terrible and I had no idea” and getting that unmistakable whiff of bullshit. This scumbag’s behaviour is apparently an open secret and yet it has taken till now for someone to do something about it? I’m looking at the talking heads, wise after after the fact, and wondering just how much they valued continued fame and fortune over the ethical duty to stop a serial sexual predator.
I suspect there are plenty of people in Hollywood now desperately replaying the last 25 years over in their mind and thinking “was that sexual harassment”? “was that sexual harrassment”? “shit…actress A told me about what Weinstein did on several occasions and I did nothing”. etc. etc.
There are plenty of people going to come out of this looking pretty bad.

This is an issue I’ve mentioned in other threads about this. At what point do you “know” something? As opposed to having heard rumors about something?

I’ve been told, for example, that Bill Clinton has committed multiple rapes. And I’ve been told that Hillary Clinton has committed multiple murders. And I’ve been told that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and George W. Bush planned out the 9/11 attacks. And I’ve been told that Donald Trump is a paid agent working for the Russian government. Does that mean I now know these things? Am I supposed to accept the truth of all of these things?

Could Corey Feldman’s child abuse allegations be next?

Actually, I suspect that it was just a few bad apples, based on the premise that most people are basically decent. But “just a few” could still be quite a lot. Suppose that only 1% of the prominent men in Hollywood are scumballs… but how many hundreds of prominent men are there?

I suspect that many of them “know” because they will have either been subject to it, seen it first hand or heard it second hand from Weinstein himself or from someone they trust completely.
Also, I wouldn’t consider the Weinstein claims to be as outrageous as the ones you suggest above, they sound scumbaggish but unfortunately don’t require any great leap of logic or imagination.

This is one case where no-one is saying: “Pics or I don’t believe it.
