Hard to believe this song is 37 years old.
Anyway, that guitar note at the beginning of the song is very distinctive. Sure, the guitar is distorted and the low ‘E’ string is picked as the tremolo bar gets depressed down to a ‘D’ note as feedback ensues.
But there is something more being done. The “attack” of the guitar sounds very ‘cutting’. Is anyone aware of what else was done to make this unique sounding intro? I’m guessing that it might have more to do with the recording technique as opposed to the guitar and effects.
Probably compression and limiting with virtually instant attack and infinite release.
Wolf…
Moving into the '70’s Eric left the Animals and started the Eric Burdon Band.
The first Album “Sun Secrets” featured a scintalating lead guitarist named
Alon Butler. On this Album, Eric covered “When I was Young” along with some
other Animal Hits. Butler Smokes on these recordings! as well as I liked the
originals, these covers blow them away. Eric Burden relates in his autobiography
that Alon was a strange cat. That he truley believed he was Jimi Hendrix.
Thanks fishbicycle
and thanks Mr Roboto for “bumping” a thread I thought had gone into oblivion.
I never heard of Alon Butler but that is some interesting information.
Any other guitar players with thoughts on this guitar introduction?
