Opie and Anthony joke about raping Condi Rice

C. Rice is partially responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens and 3000 Americans. She is definitely smart enough to know the invasion was bullshit, yet said nothing against it, and did not resign her post in disgust. She gets no sympathy here.

Hey, that’s not how this country works. You’re supposed to try and get these people fired, they said things that are shocking and/or offensive! Simply not listening to them isn’t enough, they must be PUNISHED!!! Plus, kids might hear them! WHO WILL THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

Remember, there’s no censorship in this country - we don’t need it! There’s plenty of other ways to remove any unapproved, unpopular speech before the government need get involved.

So is Hilary. So it would be OK to make jokes about raping her, right?

(I know, I know - she’s ugly, and Condi is not. I meant apart from that.)

Well, nobody forced them to join the Rutgers basketball team.

Regards,
Shodan

I can’t listen to the clip.

I will say that I think joking about raping someone is despicable. Rice may be guilty of war crimes, but she still should not be raped or threatened with rape.

C. Rice is not ugly?

And its not right to say that about anyone, but it is legal, and wasn’t racial- similar things were said about white women by same nutjob. Hell, I’d find it more offensive if he said that about Paris Hilton- at least she hasn’t killed anyone. But I’m not defending that show- I think all shows of that ilk should be off the air becasue they’re stupid, the offensiveness I don’t care about.

And what deaths are Hilary responsible for?

They’re assholes, without a single redeeming bone in their bodies. They’re pure mean. And yes, I listen to them. Sometimes. For about ten minutes, and then I can’t stand it anymore.

Sometimes they have good guests, and they’re still better than the Z-100 Zoo.

They don’t have the genuine interest in topics of Howard, they’re all about hurting people.

They have been suspended from XM for those comments.

If the comments bothered XM so much, then why did I hear them not only live, but in both of the replays that day? They’ve edited the replays before, like the time they cut out an hour-long argument between Opie and Jim Norton.

I have a serious problem with suspending them for 30 days for comments a GUEST made. This wasn’t a bit or a recurring character. Do they occasionally bring homeless guys onto the air? Yes, and they have for years (for example, Grey Wolf and Tippy Tom) but “Homeless Charlie” was a new guy.

Hell, on Monday they had Ozzy Osbourne on the FreeFM side, and he dropped at least 10 f-bombs that I heard on XM because they don’t dump out of things. Is FreeFM going to suspend them for a month for letting a guest curse on the air? They’re liable to the FCC for what Ozzy did, unlike on the XM side.

Condi is not ugly? Did we just step into the second half of TZ’s "Eye of the Beholder?

Where in the supplied clip is it implied that Condi is being raped?
The guy is reeling off people he wants to fuck.
One of the host comments “imagine how she feels when she realises it is you”
The language is vulgar, but it is the guys ‘desire’ to be banging these women he is describing.
Nowhere does it implicitly state that Condi would be being raped against her will.
Only when the Host throws in that quizzical remark - does it allude to her not being complicit or even to drunk to care until a moment of realisation.

Unless in US parlance “I want to fuck that bitch” equates to “I want to rape that bitch”.
I don’t see where the OP gets his headline from.
It’s shock radio, it does what is says on the tin.

Because outrages like this are both selective and based more on what people decide they can get out of it in the form of political or cultural scalps than any sense of consistency.

When are people going to call for the firing of the south Park guys, I wonder?

There’s a reason I don’t listen to radio shows like those, and it’s specifically because I find no humor in denigrating other people in that manner. While I have little to no respect for the political stance and actions of Dr. Rice, any comment “joking” about raping her or anyone else is repugnant, offensive, and disgusting.

If those two DJs did make that comment or worked a homeless man into coming up with it, then they should be condemned in the same terms that Imus was or even moreso. As I don’t spend any money on XM or on the DJs sponsors, that I know of, I can’t vote with my money any more than I already do. I certainly won’t protest if the DJs are fired.

And that, fellow Dopers, is my humorless, uptight take on the matter.

(boldings mine)

So, turning them off is an option, right? So, what’s the problem again?

There’s no problem on my part. I didn’t ask for Imus to be fired. I personally don’t care what happens to any of these guys, but I think it needs to be understood that Imus was not fired by Al Sharpton, or by the public or directly for what he said. he was fired for losing his sponsors, pure and simple. It’s all about business.

Lately there seems to have become something of a sport to keep pointing out public figures who have said stupid things and asking “why wasn’t HE fired?” The answer is probably that he or she was probably not losing any money for his/her employers. Rosie O’Donnel was getting good ratings and not losing sponsors, so there was no problem. None of these people are ever going to get fired because the companies actually have any ideological or ethical problems, but only because they’re hurting the bottome line.

Imus was fired because that’s how it works in a capitalist system. Corporations don’t have to be consistent or fair or give people equal treatment. Only the government does.

I have to wonder how those who want to whine about the injustice inherent in the capitalist system (I guess this injustice is news to them) would like to do about it. Do the want the state to intervene?

I literally could not listen to the clip. I wasn’t making any comment about my tender sensibilities, just the state of my technology.

Now, that’s funny.

I saw the O&A clip on MSNBC. It was puerile, offensive, misogynist and witless. That’s free speech. It was enough for me to know I would never listen to their show, but I would never try to get them off the air. It’s up to their employers to decide if they want to keep paying them.

Sorry. That’s pretty funny though.

Yeah, that shit was quite disgusting. Not only was the commentary offensive, but the dialogue had a certain Girls Gone Wild let’s-egg-on-this-piece-of-trash-for-our-own-twisted-delight freakshow aspect to it.

I don’t care what happens to these idiots, but at least they aren’t pretending to be respected and reputable newsmen like Imus did. As soon as a potential head of state gives an interview with these guys, maybe such comparisons will be more valid. They probably won’t get fired because their employer doesn’t have a MSNBC-level reputation to uphold and protect.

Anyone else think there is a possibility that this is a publicity stunt, with XM’s approval, to get in the news like Imus?
