Do you think violence and female nudity (full frontal) in cinema has gone a little too far?
No.
I think crap movies have gone too far.
I move for division of the question.
I thought it had gotten less so the last 25-35 years, don’t you think?
Nope, not at all. Lucky for me, I am not forced to watch anything I don’t want to watch.
And actually, a little more full frontal on the fellas would be appreciated.
What exactly is “too far”?
Seconded.
Why are you linking sensuality and violence together?
I watched Bull Durham with my wife at the start of baseball season. I’d forgotten about the casual nudity in the move and this was just weeks after watching Lethal Weapon after which she turned to me and asked if I liked any old movies without naked women in them. Overall I think nudity has decreased tremendously outside of teen comedies since it’s peak in the late 80/early 90s.
Violence is certainly up but it seems to be based on genre and I’d compare the violence in Dirty Harry or Death Wish to any action movie today but the horror movies are much more gruesome.
Zackly so! Horror movies “went too far” for my own personal tastes way back in the sixties! But if enough people want to watch 'em to make them profitable, then they haven’t gone “too far.”
Specifically female sensuality, no less. I’d really like to hear the OP’s response to this. Kind of interesting message for a first posting.
There’s a heck of a lot less nudity in movies nowadays than there was a few decades ago. Used to be, unless a movie was actively marketed to kids, it was guaranteed to have at least an exposed breast. On the other hand, there’s more of it on TV, so who knows what that says about our societal mores.
Somehow seeing a dude’s dick doesn’t enhance the story for. It’s usually an unnecessary scene done to shock or titillate.
It doesn’t equate to women showing their breasts at all. Vaginas and penis aren’t needed in mainstream film.
I’m not a prude. I have a collection of vintage 70’s and 80’s adult film. Actresses like Veronica Hart and Kay Parker could act and do the adult stuff. You fully expect explicit scenes in these films.
Main stream film has gone too far. They often go for the easy shock value instead of creating a great story. Anybody can film a character hosing down an airport terminal with an AK-47 or have actors walking around stark naked.
It takes real commitment & hard work to create a film like The Color Purple, Philadelphia, or Schindler’s List. The nudity is appropriate in these films.
We need more films like that.
Schindler’s list had nudes. And violence.
Nudity was needed to show the horror of the concentration camps.
There are some stories that demand stark reality.
Bridges
So you are saying that seeing dudes’ dicks enhanced the story?
Screw that. Let’s go for Consultation of the Whole.
Nitpick, should be singular.
In Schindler’s List film? Absolutely.
There are movies where it’s TMI. Put on a robe or something.
