Opinion of Sara Palin Pre September 08

I knew absolutely nothing. I had never even heard her name before. My parents are both conservative republicans, they didn’t know anything about her either.

Never heard of her till the Veep announcement.

I had never heard of her before the VP candidate announcement.

This just appeared in this week’s Boston Phoenix. The indy rockers from Wasilla heard of her:

Linky no worky …

at least not for me.

Never heard of her.

I knew who she was for the same reason I know about Yulia Tymoshenko. It’s too bad that “Palin or Tymoshenko?” thread was lost to Amnesia Weekend. I had actually heard her mentioned as a possible VP candidate, but the pundits dismissed her because of Troopergate.

I remember reading an op-ed piece in the NY Times in which she said we should take the Polar Bear off the endangered species list. At the time her argument seemed to me to be “Why? Because I said so!” I wasn’t very impressed.

After she was chosen and I remembered that she was the same person who wrote the op-ed piece, I thought: “She may be smart, but that article she wrote sure didn’t impress me.”

Absolutely right. Murkowski was a disaster and I’m still trying to figure out why people voted for him in the first place. Whoever followed him would be wildly popular and only have to be able to fog a mirror to be so. Troopergate is a minor ripple in a backwater state that will likely never find traction by election day. And even if it does, the sheeple will vote for her and McCain because of party affiliation.

I’m fairly political and I had heard of her. Mostly, I remember her being mentioned on the website wonkette.com which referenced her frequently.

I had heard of her a little bit in reference to being a possible VP candidate. I knew she was young, had a large family, and I had also heard about the baby having Down Syndrome. Frankly, I thought she sounded pretty kickass.

I had heard her as a potential VP. Every mention I ever saw of her, even by conservatives, was closely followed by mentions of Troopergate and her lack of experience.

Those same people won’t admit to it now.

Finally a thread I can contribute to that has something to do with politics.

Sara WHO??? :x

I had heard of her as a potential long-shot VP pick. I had heard of Troopergate and thought that would have killed her chances. Go figure.

I’m probably not your standard person on the street though – I read a lot of websites & articles pertaining to politics & the election.

Never heard of her.

Knew nothing about her.

Know a lot now, which is why I’m convinced she’d be a horrible choice for vice president.

Boy, you sure pwned aldiboronti good. Care to address any of Merkwurdigliebe’s concerns?

I saw a little blurb in the newspaper when she had her baby, but i don’t think it mentioned that her baby had Down’s syndrome.

Sure … outside of a little hyperbole, I agree with pretty much everything he said in that thread.

I’m not sure what else you’re asking me to address.

Her sphere of influence was more than 2000 miles removed from my home. The media here never deleted enough ‘Inside Edition’ coverage of our ex-governors divorce to report much of the gaffs and corruption of governors in other states, let alone one from an opposite party.

Damn Liberal Media.

That’s a powerful photographic image. I wonder if they’ll reuse it when McCain kicks?

I had read a story on the Nintendo Wii News Channel, of all places, about the governor of Alaska who flew all the way from Texas back home to Alaska while in labor to give birth and then went back to work a mere three days later. At the time, I thought it was a bizarre story. “Regular people” can’t fly during the last month of their pregnancy, but she was not only allowed to fly to Texas, but fly back while in labor? What if she had given birth on the plane? A hospital in Texas would be better than that, I’d think. It seemed like she was tough but extremely reckless at the same time.

There was no mention in the article about the baby having Down’s syndrome that I can recall. I think the article did mention that it was her fifth child.

I was shocked to find that the woman McCain nominated to be vice-president was this woman I had read about. Frankly, I’m shocked that the mother of a four-month old with special needs would even consider accepting the nomination. Of course, now we know that Trig isn’t the only Palin child who will need special attention in the coming months.

Tough but reckless. That’s still my opinion.
