Opinions sought on how to integrate a new cat into a multicat household (cat pics included)

First, kitty pics

The boys’ new favorite spot:

Kitty-sheep and kitty-cow

I rather like this shot

So, she’s getting along better with me and not that well with the other cats.

She used to be afraid of getting on the bed and was afraid of me. Now she likes sleeping on the bed and I often wake up with her sleeping or purring a foot away from my face. I even put the blanket on her while she was lying next to me in bed so that only her head was sticking out. I’m hoping to have her cuddle with me under the covers by this winter.

At least once a day, she gets to walk around the rest of the flat while Sam & Styx are in her room. She seems to prefer her room though. I’m not sure how to make her appreciate the rest of the flat more.

There was a fight with Styx. I don’t know how it started. He seems to feel threatened by her.

As for Sam, he would let her walk behind him and she’d use his tail as a toy. When he tried to play with her, she perceived it as being attacked. Other than that, Sam goes out of his way not to seem threatening to her.

They can all be in the same room but they need to be supervised lest a hiss or growl escalate into a fight.

Comfortable, if not exactly lady-like

If ever a kitty required high dynamic range photography, it’s Styx

My plan to have them sleep at head height is slowly making progress

So, I’ve noticed a bad dynamic:

When she doesn’t feel threatened, Channelle is a sweet purring kitty. With the proper approach, it was easy to make her gradually go from very hesitant to even step on the bed to sleeping a foot next to my head.

She gets scared easily, likely in large part because of the mistreatment from her former owner. She reflexively growls and hisses to be left alone when perceives something to be potentially threatening her.
Styx perceives the growling and hissing as a sign that she’s going to attack so he starts aggressively yowling and trying to attack her. He twice succeeded in attacking her which makes her scared of him which then means she hisses and growls more so he feels threatened more etc.

Not sure what to do.

Also, while she gets to walk around the flat at least once a day, usually, she stays in a large bedroom. When she’s let out, the boys go in her room. When she’s out, she often wants to go back to her room.

When she is in a room* at night, Styx will yowl very insistently to be allowed him.

*I did say “a room”, not necessarily her room.

Private message for Channelle: You are a big fatty foo foo. Yes! Yes!

She’s actually not that fat as it turns out, just very fluffy. She is a foo foo, though.
