My objection to the pill is that hormonal birth control is a major drug: for me, at least, it fucks me up royally and transforms my whole personality. It kills my sex drive, kills my energy level, and I pile on weight at a truly mind-boggling speed. I’ve been on plenty of types, and they were all hell.
There is no way I’d risk that sort of impact on a child still going through puberty. The normal progression of crazy hormones ought not be modified or augmented without more reason than the slight chance of rape with the attendant slight chance of pregnancy. Puberty has its own terrible symptoms: how would you untangle what was puberty and what was the pill?
Now, if my daughter had terrible cramps and the doctor wanted to try hormone regulations, I’d be open to a discussion, because that would shift the risk/benefit analysis. But there are objections to the pill that go far beyond the philosophical, and it really irritates me when people blythely suggest going on the pill like it’s just a magic charm you wear against pregnancy. It’s a powerful, powerful drug.
I heard this same slogan back when I was in school 20 years ago. It didn’t make any sense to me then, and still doesn’t now. The Wiki article on it doesn’t exactly clear things up (“Property is theft and property is freedom”?). Would you care to clarify your stance?
My “blasphemy”:
I agree with Ken Wilber - the notion that Jesus of Nazareth is uniquely the Son of God is “monstrous”. Either we are all Children of God, or none of us are.
I agree. I also believe that married people who get deployed should just get divorced; they’re going to do that anyway when they come back, so why not just cut their losses and get it over with.
And speaking of divorce, I do believe that children can indeed be responsible for the failure of their parents’ marriage, and that if that is the case, they are very aware of that fact.
Whenever I see a roomful of Muslims facing Mecca, I always wonder how many of them really believe in what they’re doing, and how many of them are only going through the motions because they know if they don’t, they can potentially lose everything, up to and including their lives.
And before anyone says they feel that way when they see a group of people at a Christian service, please tell me where in the world a person can be executed because they aren’t Christian.
I believe that people on the extreme end of the autistic spectrum should be institutionalized as soon as the prognosis is certain.
All welfare/entitlement programs should be administered at the state level, not the federal level.
The federal Department of Education, Department of Labor, Department of Agriculture, Department of Transportation, and Department of Energy should be shut down. All of that stuff should be done at the state level.
There should be no federal laws regulating banking, healthcare, and insurance companies.
The tax code should be scrapped and replaced with The Fair Tax.
Any U.S. citizen who is not incarcerated or on probation should be allowed to own a firearm. Yes, IMO felons who have served their time should be allowed to keep and bear arms.
The NFA of 1934 and GCA of 1968 should be nullified, and anyone should be able to purchase a fully automatic rifle through Amazon.
I was censured on another board for telling a poster that it was a good thing she didn’t have children, for this reason: If she’d had daughters, she would have viewed them as potential victims, and if she’d had sons, she would have viewed them as potential predators.
In the perfect world I dream of, yes. In practice, to make that workable you might have to combine it with having the penalty for committing a felony with a firearm be 500 lashes.
The second one I call bull shit. Why? It’s not religion that is the issue, religion is just a method for controlling mankind. Not very different to Mao or Stalin using communism. Religious wars, terrorism is an outcome of someone pushing their views on some one elses.
Most war was and has always been about economic advantage and not religion.
I love dark chocolate the most (as long as it’s not ridiculously dark), followed by white chocolate and then milk chocolate. Anyone who disses white chocolate will have to face my wrath. Rawr!
That being said, pelvic exams and pills for 9 year old girls is sick and wrong.
And no, you still can’t have your burger anything other than well done. Sorry.
I’m doubtful that the Holocaust happened, as presented to us. I go along with David Irving on this, pretty much. I think that the Wannassee (sp?) Conference tapes were fake, mistranslated, or out of conference.
(Before you start cackling that I’m anti-Semitic, I will say that you are totally wrong.)
I think that a Monarchy/Dictatorship would serve the US just as well as a democracy.
I think that Penn and Teller are a couple of overrated, unentertaining shit-heads.
More to follow…as soon as I can remember them.
Ooops…forgot. I think that medicine above the level of ‘medics’ is a waste of time and money, and, waiting out the disease is as effective as medical treatments.
