Opinions wanted on dogs

I am wanting to get a large dog. I had a Boxer once and really liked the personality and traits.

I guess my question is, which of the following is the most like a Boxer in temperment, etc.,… a Doberman, a Rot, or a Mastiff? Thanks.

Try this

I’m not sure how helpful my reply will be since I’ve never owned a Boxer, but I can tell you that Doberman’s can be great dogs. I’ve only had mine for about two months now (a 4.5 year old rescue) and she really does think she’s a lap dog. She has this thing where she’ll back up to where I’m sitting and plant her back end on the couch as if she were sitting too. I’ve noticed she learns by observation. I smile at her and she smiles back. I play with my other dog in a very particular fashion and I’ve noticed her playing with him in a similar fashion. Suffice it to say…Doberman’s are smart and easy to train. She does have fear aggression on lead but I think that’s more a result of lack of socialization than a typical trait of a Doberman.

Good luck in your search!

The dogs you mention all tend to be more intelligent than a boxer and have been bred for different purposes, so it’s really hard to say.
Why not get another boxer?

Why would you want a doberman or a rot? Do you WANT to get sued when they eat some neighborhood kid?

Awwwww, Snoop, Dobermans are sweeties and Rotweillers are cuddly! Yeah, you don’t want to train them to be vicious and you want to be careful where you get them (preferably a bitch from a breeder breeding family pets and not attack dogs–a rescue is iffy for them because people might have gotten rid of the dog for a good reason but Whetherman had a good experience) and their bark, while no worse than their bite, can be pretty horrifying but I’m willing to bet that if you walked down the street with a well-behaved Doberman without docked ears or tail you wouldn’t know it was supposed to be some kind of devil dog. They’d think you just had some kind of big, skinny hound dog, which is what they are.

I have honestly never met a vicious Dobe or Rot. Just ones that think they are lap dogs.

I’ve never met a nice doberman or rot.

My neighbor has a dog and I cannot figure out what it is. First off, I’m not sure it’s a dog. The first time I saw it I thought it was a miniature pig. I can’t see someone owning a pig in the city limits, though, so I assume it’s a doglike substance. The poor thing is huge. It’s got a medium frame but it is waaaaaay overweight, I bet it weighs a good 80-90 pounds or so. When it walks it looks like it’s in pain because it walks stiffly and sort of waddles. It has a snoutlike nose, a short tail and short, black hair that looks sleek.

Are there any types of dog like the one I described that has a tendency to get fat?

My family had a doberman crossed with a labrador - not only was he beautiful, he had a lovely character. Maybe this is the way to go?

Get a husky dog. They have a temperament that you will find endearing. If not, get a lab. They’re boring but predictable.
