"opting out" on credit card

If you want to “opt out” of the privacy policy for a credit card, which seems to mean that you DON’T want them to allow your personal information out, you have to tear off the form, fill it out, including your phone numbers, both day and evening, address the envelope, stamp it, and send it in.

Isn’t this just a way for them to get you on a special list of people they will torment even more? Doesn’t this just say, “Look at me!! I want more phone calls from you and whoever you sell my name to!!” ???

You may want to do it online with the only industry approved opt out /opt in web site and save the cost of a Forever stamp. But before you do, read up on your rights under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) (Wikipedia link) or go straight to the official FTC web site (PDF warning) and read the law yourself.

Opting out does not mean you will be subject to more phone calls and mail. It means, under the law, that you want out.
