Does anyone else have to use this tool?
I’m currently speechless with rage at what it’s doing to this effing report. All I’ve done is size a page and it starts rejecting it’s own freaking internal groupings (frames?) as having no size. For pete’s sake they’re logical objects - they don’t have a size. Needless to say I haven’t even viewed the objects it’s failing on.
Reports 2.5 was worse if you can believe it. And I chose not to think about reportwriter 1.1
If you thing your IDE is a awkward tool try Oracle Reports, it’s an education.
Heh. I feel some of your pain. I just got handed (to install and maintain) a commercial product built on Oracle Forms/Reports 6i. Needless to say, it hasn’t worked yet, and I’ve gotten to play around with the forms designer, etc. as I work with the vendor’s engineers to figure out why it’s broke.
I haven’t been impressed with Oracle forms/reports at all. Hell, for that matter, the only Oracle product that genuinely impresses me is the actual RDBMS itself…
Tee hee. I kinda wondered if they’d changed. A few years ago my friend and I had to do a project involving Oracle and either Forms or their embedded SQL-in-C pre-processor. Since Forms didn’t produce the same output on the same data twice in a row, we decided to go with embedded SQL, whose only apparent fault was that if you forgot a semicolon anywhere in your code, the preprocessor would crash perfunctorily with no diagnostic information at all. (Hunt for that line now!)
The DB itself was terrific, but anything else they make… sux0r.
