The two reviews on Amazon give it five stars. I’ve always enjoyed DIY misadventures, so I ordered it. I’ll be sure and post a review and thoughts when I receive and read it.
I would not have known about it if not for this forum, so I’m glad it’s here.
I’m not trying to stir the shit, this is an honest question.
Is there any chance of a “Charter Member” discount when ordering said book?
I think a whole lot of the grumpy folks around here would get over it reeeeal quick if that happened.
Also, any chance of the referral thing happening?
Every time a Doper has to go to amazon on their own like I did, that’s a small bit of $ CL is missing out on.
I am not speaking for Ed here but I do note that at edzotti.com one of the listings is “A cheaper place to buy the book.”
Which, of course, takes you to Amazon. Where you can buy the book at discount.
I should also tell you that I have been told that while Amazon makes it very easy for the average Joe to add Amazon to their webpage it is a totally different story for companies; for the Reader pages to link to Amazon means that Amazon basically muscles in on the business. It’s not a discreet little bug that takes you to Amazon but a big ol’ block of stuff and it has to be this big size and Amazon dictates how and where it’s located on the page and you have to add other stuff in to it and etc.
The CL/Reader staff decided it was not worthwhile to give Amazon so much house room and free advertising for what is a small return at best . Too much of a hassle.
Thank you for explaining this. leander is correct, this should be in the ATMB somewhere for the next time it is suggested. I have seen the suggestion so often on the board that I wondered why it wasn’t done.
Not to further hijack this thread – and yes, this probably will wind up being a sticky in ATMB – but I should also tell you that as an integral part of the Amazon Associates program a site is required to salt content pages with links to Amazon and its products. (Reference what I said earlier about Amazon muscling in on your business, I wasn’t kidding.)
We have neither the resources or the time to do this on the SDMB and even if we did the return on such an investment is probably not worth the effort. And even if it was do you really want this site to be a shill for Amazon?
So no, as previously mentioned, it’s not just a matter of flipping a switch or adding a bit of coding and it’s quite intrusive to a commercial website, probably more intrusive than many of you would tolerate on this site.
So, do I get a free copy for scooping the Dope and posting this in Cafe Societytwo months ago? Although I notice very little to no attention to that thread and have no intention of bringing it back. Thanks for the bump though Tuba.
I’ve been an Amazon.com associate and it very much is simply a matter of adding a bit of code to your site (at least technically). On the other hand, it’s not really worth it.
It’s thick! It’s got pictures. So far, it’s pretty damn good. I want to say one thing, and then I won’t say anything else until I’m done and write a whole review.
