Husband, daughter, and I are all designated donors. And once I’m dead, I prefer that any parts of me that can be of value be used - even if it’s as a med-school lab project. It’s not like I’ll need any of it any longer.
Actually, it wasn’t something we planned for; we were approached while the baby was still on life support, but while we were making plans to terminate life support. Otherwise, the donation agency wouldn’t have been allowed to talk to us. However, it helped us through a very painful time because it allowed us to focus on something positive. It turned out that the organs harvested weren’t usable because the baby died of infection, and there were traces of infection in the organs harvested. But I’m still glad that we were able to do it, and I would do it again, God forbid something happened to Aaron.
