Organically playing all 9 positions

Has a player who ended up playing all 9 positions done it organically? Meaning: he moved around due to need, not coming to the park thinking,“I’m going to play all 9 positions tonight.”

It’s only been done four times in MLB. All four were doing it as a gimmick.

In a single game? Season? Career?

In a single game. I’d imagine that there are a lot more that have done it for a career.

Sorry, I meant in 1 game.

Well, there’s a fifth actually. He’s pretty famous too. I’d even go so far as to say he’s the first player people think of when asked this question.

1.Dunno if that’s the 1st one people think of.
2.Was my FAVORITE Bugs Bunny short as a kid (a Bugs movie, a series of shorts, was on the other nite)
3.Thought it was funny that it was clearly the Yankee Stadium facade, but the announcer said they were at the Polo Grounds.

I realize it’s not in a single game, but I fired up my B-R.com play index account. People who have played all 9 positions in one season, since 1911:

Baseball-Reference is awesome.

As you can see, Shelton also played DH in 2000, for the whole spectrum.
