Origin of "Passed Away"

Probably been done on here but I haven’t seen it.
Anyone?

I just got home from a week’s vacation. So forgive me if I don’t search the archives. I have enuf to do tonight trying to catch up.

Pass as a verb in English, appears before 1200 as passen and meant to die.

I’ll try to get back to you on the “pass away” thingy.

Sound’s like a religious phrase to me. I’ll look too.
Peace,
