Hi there!
Does anyone know the origin of these three phrases?
-
“walking on the guards” – I believe it is a Mississippi riverboat term
-
“opening snaps” – I believe this is a term used in the game “faro” <sp>
-
“wild game and butter” – As in: “He’d been to Kansas City on ‘wild game and butter’.”
Thanks in advance for any help!
Todd
“Because that’s what Hermione does,” said Ron, shrugging. “When in doubt, go to the library.” – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
