Origin of the term "la la land"

Used to describe the place someone goes(mentally) when they “space out.”

My mom says it is derived from the “L.A.” in Los Angeles, which even if it is incorrect, makes perfect sense to me.

According to This site:
la-la land - a fanciful state or dreamworld.

ORIGIN: The abbreviation for Los Angeles is L.A. La-la land began as a reference to the lifestyle and attitudes of many of the people who live in Los Angeles.

As a bonus, it first appeared in print in 1984. For the five or so years before that, it was commonly called Lotus Land.
