Origin of yellow perch being called 'Eisenhowers' (southeastern US)

I heard of this for the first time recently. Apparently the ‘old people’ said that they were called “Eisenhowers” because it was a project under Ike to stock these fish in various waterways, lakes, etc.

Not having any luck whatever finding anything to corroborate the name. The closest I’ve found is this article, which speculates that maybe it was because of something Ike had said, and not about stocking.

So. . . anyone wanna try to find any info on when this started or whether Ike was behind any fish stocking projects?
