Original, unaltered Star Wars movies coming to Blu-ray

Fun Fact: After a lawsuit by Harlan Ellison, the only version of The Terminator available to purchase includes altered credits.

Gah, I’d forgotten that one. At least it was a legally-required change and not an artistic vision one.

Thank you. I didn’t see it in the theater (not having been born until '82). I thought you meant it was added once Lucas decided to make the prequels.

… and then there is the Star Wars Holiday Special.

Out of curiosity, when did they mention it? I don’t remember it at all.

I’ve been told that I sat down and watched it once. Either my friends are lying to me, or I’ve repressed that traumatic memory.

Not exactly. Coruscant first appears onscreen in the 1997 theatrical re-release of ROTJ during the celebration scenes at the end of the movie. Naboo was added for either the DVD or Blu-ray release, I forget which. The name itself comes from the Timothy Zahn novels, which were written after the original trilogy.

And then, when fans complained about it, Lucas told them that it was because their TVs weren’t adjusted properly, and that if you just perfectly customized all of your TV settings prior to watching the movie, they wouldn’t show up.

Oh, and the Special Editions also gave us things like Luke’s lightsabre changing color for no particular reason. And the original Death Star explosion effect looked much better than the CGI monstrosity in the Special Edition. And don’t even get me started on the windows in Cloud City.

Damn. I was sure it was in the original films because I remember it being in one of the early video games (some iteration of TIE Fighter?) Guess I was wrong on that too.

Well, fuck Lucas.

With a shovel!
